I purchased some Meguiars NXT recently, but never used it. Well today, I decided to try some on my 1987 acura integra(daily driver). It received a 39009 application and some red zymol before winter so it needed tlc. I washed all the dirt off with dawn and dried it, then put down a thin coat of NXT on the entire car.
The stuff spreads nicely. I use about the same amount as I do when using Zaino. It dried to a light haze and couldn't be easier to remove. The paint isn't the greatest on this car, but boy does it shine! The NXT removed a little "hazing" from over the winter also.
I'm pretty impressed with the product so far. It's definitely a "no fuss" application.
The 'vette is being done next. I'll take some pics of the integra for you fellas/ladies.
Not saying I'll stop using Zaino, but if I'm in a pinch, NXT is going on.
I'll see how durable it is seeing my 'teg stays outside and isn't washed regularly.
Ok Jay that 's a start...now lets see how you like it on the Vette.
BTW, try some booster wax on top of the NXT and I bet it's even smoother and deeper. This stuff is even easier to apply and buff out and needs nearly no cure time.
I noticed how quickly it began to haze! Zaino with ZFX did almost as quickly. waiting for this stuff to dry can be like waiting for winter
I don't have the booster spray. I didn't see it when I bought the NXT. I'll have to pick some up. That was my next question, can I use final inspection detail spray with this stuff to de-dust it?
Since I park in a public lot there was some dust on her that the cal. duster didn't take off before I put the next coats of NXT on today.
So I hit it with some Meguiar's quick detailer and the finish was as slick as when I finished up last night.
I was recently on this site: http://www.autopia.org/ and they recommend a wax on top of the synthetic sealant, like NXT. So I got the idea to use the booster wax on top of the NXT. And this is what gave the finish that extra "silky smooth" feel.
I used my makita rotary buffer with a black waffle pad with some 39009, then finished wiping off the NXT(which was UN GODLY simple to apply and remove) the friggin' finish looks like a lake!
My Dad saw it, He knows a thing or two about paint, he said it looks like liquid
I'm anxiously awaiting to see how it looks in the sunlight. Zaino never let me down in that department where waxes looked streaky. We'll see how this looks. I rather like this product NXT. :yesnod:
Jim, thanks for the kudo's on the detail spray.
A quick follow up on it's durability(or the lack of). As you know, I used my buffer and 39009 3M scratch and swirl remover BEFORE I NXT'd the car. I then wiped off the 39009 and put the NXT down followed by a coat of "booster" spray from meg's. I thought the shine was blinding....so did a few others. I was fair and said I wasn't convinced UNTIL it passed my durability test.
Well, I don't know if I did something wrong in the application or what, but ZAINO has NEVER done to me what NXT has after only two rainstorms withOUT a washing. I washed the car just now and the water stood on the paint like there was barely any wax or protection on it. I thought, maybe it'd bead or sheet a little better after it was washed "WRONG" same difference. I used Meguiar's soap as well, kind of tried to stay with a "System" so there is no blame.
I had my car professionally wet sanded last year...obviously that burns off whatever is on the car for polish or wax. I put zaino on the finish directly after we we're done with the final stage(39009) of polishing and the car was rained on SEVERAL times. The results we're as it should have been, tight pellet sized beads came off the finish from the Zaino doing it's job.
I was LESS than impressed with the results of this...BUT to be fair, I'm going to give it one more application before I go back to good old durable Zaino.
Has anyone else used NXT and found it became burned off by only a few rainstorms?
Jay, sorry to hear that news about the durability test; my test results were much better.
I responded to your other post but anyway, I just power rinsed my Vette this morning after driving in rain & road spray last night, and the water just beaded up and any residual grime rinsed off.
The shine and clean feel were still there but I gave her another coat of booster wax anyway.
Give your Vette another coat or two of NXT followed by the booster and after the next rains just hose it off and see if the result is any better. Cover the entire car in NXT, wait about 1/2hr (if warm) and buff off.
