How much is one of these and where can I buy one? Have been looking for a good buffer for less than $100.00. Was at several department stores and several automotive stores and Home Depot type stores and saw several. After reading most of all labels from a varitey of random orbital's ranging from 6" to 10" pads and so on..different prices.....I was like man   Saw a Black and Decker for approx #30.00 and there was not much different in the speed, RPM's, output and other specifications. I have read on here on several occasions where peopel have bought buffers up to $200.00 and some less than $50.00 and still get basically the same results........Any suggestions on the Proter Cable or anything that is less than $100.00?
Re: Porter Cable random orbital buffer model 7424 (C5corvetteman)
I dont think you can find one for less than 100.00 but trust me, these are worth a couple more bucks. With their costruction, and ball bearing motor, these puppies will last a life time. You can purchase a PC 7336 at Lowes for around 110.00 but still need the backing plate and weight, I believe.
You can also purchase a PC 7424 with counterweight and backing plate from http://www.coastaltools.com for around 119.00 . Or you can use our supporting vendor at http://www.autogeek.net for 129.99 and 10% off discount code on checkout. I dont believe they include the counter/backing plate either but email Jason, he just might match their offer.
Re: Porter Cable random orbital buffer model 7424 (Killrwheels)
The Porter Cable sold at Lowes is model number 7336 and comes factory equiped with the 6 inch conter weight for use with the common 6 inch velcro backer plate, the Porter Cable model 7424 comes from the factory with the 5 inch counter weight which according to PC needs to be changed to a 6 inch weight if you plan to run the 6 inch backer plate, so I just purchased the one from Lowes for 109.00 since I already new I was going to run the 6 inch velcro backer plate from http://www.topoftheline.com to adapt onto the Lake Country 7.5 inch foam pads also sold thru topoftheline.
Those 30 dollar buffers you are seeing DO NOT have an interchangable arbor, you must change buffer bonnets to go from one product to the next whereas with the PC and the velcro backer plate, changing the pads takes about 5 seconds and you can get different aggresiveness pads with the quick change system whereas with the 30 dollar buffers you can either get cotton or foam pads and that is about it.
Also, the PC has a 3.7 amp motor where the 30 dollar buffers have anywhere from a .5 to 1 amp motor. And the cheap buffers are almost always a single speed where the PC has 6 speeds.
