Generally Rain-X lasts 3-4 months. It is a synthetix polymer dissolved in iso-propyl alcohol. When the alcohol evaporates the polymer dries in a thin layer on the windshield.
Why the detail?
The thin polymer layer is abraded by the action of the windshield wipers ,disolved by the alcohol ( methanol, Iso-propylalcohol) in washer fluids and removed by vigorous rubbing when using window cleaning agents (windex, Stoner's invisible Glass etc..
So the less you clean your windshields, or drive in the rain,the longer it lasts.
just watch for the drop in effectiveness and recoat as often as necessary.
