One of my friends claybared his car (a 300ZX) this weekend, he showed me the difference of how smooth the paint was after and i was very amazed. Ive never claybar'd my car before (I wax it though), and i was just wondering if it wears the paint down, or if it is in anyway bad for the car.... (btw, he was using the Mcguires claybar stuff)
The cars paint felt like sandpaper in comparison to what it felt like after it was claybar'd.
clay can be very dangerous, if not used properly.. you must keep the surface well lubricated.. the clay should glide smoothly over the surface.. you should feel no resistance. if you rub the clay over the paint without enough lube , you will scratch the clear coat.. a lubricant like Quick detailer or a like lubricant comes in a claybar kit... but you can just buy claybar.. Ive seen several people post how do you get the scratches out of the clear coat because they didnt follow the instructions or lubricate the finish enough while claying

Wash, claybar (with enough lubricant), wax...
Wow the car's finish is then a-ma-zing...
You could spit on the car and it would just slide right off... Great results with the clay!

I scratched my clearcoat when I used a claybar/with water only as a lubricant...
Had a body shop buff it out...I learned my lesson. I think claybars work great, but use copious water/soap lubrication, rub gently only, and be careful. I do find they work great if used properly.
