i know in an auto. you pull up to the line hit the double light and sit there one foot on the brake and one on the gas . how do you do it in a stick. i rolled up to the beam to stage, but once i took my foot of the brake the car wants to roll. i got one foot the gas and the other one on the clutch. do i need a 3rd foot to stay on the brake till the light turns green? whats the trick?
My car does not roll at the line with the clutch in and foot on the gas.
What I do is approach the line after the burn out and slow down. As the first light turns on I stop the car completely and inch up to get the 2nd light on. I then hit the brake again.
shouldn't the track be flat? If I was on a downhill slope (or up hill) I am not sure what I would do. I guess I would change my leave time from the 3rd light to the 2nd to make up for letting my foot off the brake and hitting the gas. As long as you can get consistent RTs then that would work.
The question is, why is your car rolling? That's the problem that you need to solve. I have driven many stick cars and none of them have creeped forward on flat ground with the clutch depressed.

Maybe your clutch isn't releasing completely?
Exactly. Or you're subconsciously slipping the clutch in anticipation of the light. Is your foot planted on the clutch pedal all the way down to the floor?
Pdd,
The best way for me to stage, and launch a 4- speed, is to roll into the first bulb, then lightly apply the brake, engage the line lok, and then bump the car into the second beam. As soon as the first light comes on, I floor the gas pedal, and run the engine up against the two- stage. I don't lift until I've gone through the traps at the end. All shifts are done full throttle, with little or no clutch. If your car is rolling through the staging beam, you probably are using quite a lot of centrifugal assist, or you may need more air gap between clutch disk, and pressure plate. Here's a decent video of me staging, and launching my Nova. Hope this helps.
thanks for the replies guys. i dont have a line lock. i only went to the track once. maybe it was all in my head, but every time i went up to stage and stopped ,it felt like my car was moving. i will try again and let you guys know how i fair
