Default Need Help On Launch

With over-the-winter mods. I was hoping for 12.8 but only got 13.02 on first day out compared to a best 13.4 previously. I run BFG DR's - but 60' time was 2.0- only slightly better than with 2.73 rear, no headers or tune, and run-flats! I don't have line-lock so big burn outs are not possible. I have a stock TC so I break torque to 1500RPM at launch. My brother who is an avid bracket racer tells me a 13.0 with a 2.0 60' means I have way too much wheel spin despite the DR's and that I have the potential to go way into the 12's with a decent 60' time.

What is the optimum tire pressure to run?
What is the best burnout technique for a A4 with no line-lock?
Should I lower launch RPM or go from an idle?
Any other tips?

Thanks in advance!

ARE you getting wheel spin? There is no need for a line lock inorder to be able to do a big burn out, if desired. Hold the car with the brakes and jump on the gas. As soon as you get the R's up, shift to second gear to increase the wheel speed. I do my burn outs dry, no water, and I can smoke 'em as much as I want with no line lock. The "correct" tire pressure is a matter of experimentation. A lower launch rpm should reduce wheel spin, if you have it, if you can't eliminate it by airing down.

RACE ON!!!

Mac, did I read right? You have stock converter?

That be the problem brother.

Is there a reason you are running stock converter?

I run BFGs around 20 psi. Line lock will help

My best 60' in the 00' coupe was a 1.91 with nitto 275/40/17 street tires.......stock TC & 3.15. gear. 8 second burn out
I launch from a dead idle after loading the drive train to 1100 rpms then back off to idle.
Pressure in my drs is 19 psi hot on my other cars.
W/o a TC upgrade your 60's will only go so low.....1.90 is about it on a stock 2.73 TC

that could be your problem but not necessarily. With my 383 I turned a best of 12.9 with a 2.0x 60' time with NO wheel spin. That same motor propelled GrandsportC3's 68 to 11.67.
The differences? My car is 500lbs heavier, 3.36 gears to his 3.70, and my 1400 launch rpm to his 3000. However, my MPH was a little higher than normal for a 12.9 run. Gears and launch RPM make a BIG difference.

12.9? Sandbagger, that's what you are. Hey guys, he's running a 14.5 dial. Your brakes must be wearing out quickly.

Thanks Steve. I've never run an auto before and I find that very interesting that you preload and then launch from idle. I'll try that. Was hoping to meet you last week. How did the vacation go?

Going to CI? I'm working on it. Are you referring to the Big Mouth?

Edit.
Are you loading at prestage, going in and staging at 1100 and then unloading? I would not want to do all that after staging.

I ment Cruise in next week Bob.......Gott ya big time! The CAI that you trust is a good move though
AS for the staging.......I prestage, ajust my stuff , pull up and stage. As my LH foot is already on the brake, its nothing to bring the revs up to ~1100 and back to idle just as the yellows are coming down and BAM launch time! This also works for me on the pro tree
For me this gets me consistant 1.52-1.55 60's in the 97' and 1.72-1.73 60's in the 00' vert. the 00' coupe has the stock TC & 3.15 gear so its slow outa-the-hole

That would screw me up big time. Like I said I'll try it but I'll run er up at pre stage, bump in and then drop to idle. You're much more intelligent than I, my mind couldn't handle all that after staging. I'll let you know how it works next week.

We're not making any cruises next week. You talking about the boys down south?

I KNOW some folks would disagree with ya on that one.
Do try it your way.......each car/drive is different.
