Default 60' time mystery..

I ran at the bracket races at the Cruise In at Bowling Green...

The dewpoint was in the upper 50's with a temperature in the lower 70's. The altidude is about 550 feet in BG.

The car hooked good with no spin at all (reviewed the videos) and my mph was some of the best I've ever run with the new setup.. However, the 60' time was about .15 slower than what I usually run in Florida... My best 60' time was on my first pass in approx. 76 degrees. The 60' times were: 1.613, 1.682 and 1.684.

In Bradenton (Florida, 5 feet above sea level) I even ran a 1.560 in about 86 degrees with a dewpoint in the 70's . My mph on that pass was only 117.5 mph.

The mph in BG was between 119.69 and 120.01 and about 97 mph in the 1/8 mile but my 60' times were bad...

What could cause the 60' times to be that bad?? Looking at the mph, my power seemed to be good

Track prep? Tire setup? Small difference in converter flash?

All tracks are not set up exactly the same, or exactly correct. For example at 75/80 Dragway in MD the 60' clocks are either not quite 60' out or the beams are set low. Everyone has about .05 better 60's there than anywhere else they have ever run even if the rest of the run is off.

Oliver, down here you were running without the roof. I'm sure the added weight slowed you down.

that little bit of slip will explain the mph. usually mph will be a bit higher if you slip a little bit.

I agree...although you didn't "feel" any slip it sounds like you did...BG is not known for track prep whereas BMP is widely known for their great prep...also, remember, you have a Florida car which probably doesn't like that cool, good DA weather...he he

The track was in good shape because they ran a big NHRA event that day... Also, check out my video of the launch posted a few posts earlier.. You can see the left wheel coming off the ground... Definetely good traction..

Oliver, maybe your tire pressure was a little low for the additional traction we had and you might have been bogging a little?

It didn't feel as if the car bogged... On my 2nd pass, I actually launched at close to 3000 RPM.. I did run 1 lbs less pressure in the tires than when I ran 1.550's..... 14 psi vs. 15 psi.. Can't imagine that this made .07 - .15 difference...

I know on my car if I go too low on a well prepped track, I just get stuck there and 60 a lot worse

I actually hook at just about all tracks... My tires are pretty big... I only ran 1 psi less than usual.. I wonder if 1 psi can make .07 - .15 difference

When I watch the video, there seems to a skip right at launch. Your front end comes up then drops and comes up again????

I usually leave the ground twice for a fraction of a second.. That's because of my suspension setup.. I'm running 80/20 on my front shocks.. Might try 90/10 and see how the car will react..

I didn't notice any skip in RPM.. They are just shooting up.. Gonna point the camera at the tach at my next track visit..

wait until you get back to BMP. I'll bet the tires are slipping ever so slightly, but less at BMP, OR all tracks are not created equal, as mentioned above.

How else do you explain the faster times (60,330,1/8th, 1000 and 1/4 ET's) for my lamo L48 at BMP during the heat of the day than at MMP in the cooler night air?

Mark, traction is an issue for you, but not for me... My tires are huge for the power that I have and I don't spin at any track...
