What a first time experience at englishtown!. Little did i know, your only allowed to run a 13.5 or more if you have a ragtop corvette, well being it was my first time there i ended up running an 11.9 @115mph with these mods/ vararam, tpis headers,hi flow cats,x pipe and exhaust,3.90 gears and a set of drag radials.A tech approached me and told me to turn the nitrous off or slow it down,i started to laugh, and that got me up in the tower to have a chat with eddie for him to tell me to enjoy the rest of my nite in the grand stands.SO guys,if u plan on going there, and u dont have a roll bar in your convertible, and your gonna run quicker than a 13.5,make your run down the track, and then make your run back home so u wont get yelled at!!!!

Ya gotta know the rules if you want to race. It's for your safety. They're really nice folks out there.
No offense but the convertible rule is kind of old news/common knowledge among those racing their C5/C6 (and '03/'04 Mustang Cobra and LS1 F-body) 'verts already (or so I thought).

I guess that Cartek tuning just makes his car too fast.
I thought I had the same problem. 2004 news archive on the NHRA site will tell you true street rules. Under the new rules, a pure stock street legal car will not require this equipment unless it runs 11.49 or quicker. That's a quote. Date is 6/22/04.

Well,i thought the same thing, but apparently they said it didnt apply to convertibles
The NHRA does not make the distinction between coupes and verts...11.49 is the cut off since the rule change...that said, bear in mind this is for PURE STOCK during test n' tune's only....no heads or cam, no intake or exhaust, no headers, no programming, no DR's, not even a K & N filter...lastly, remember any NHRA track can supercede the NHRA rules if they so choose...

Im sure its up to the track what rules they wish to enforce. I was under the assumption that the rule change did not apply to verts. Thanks for the info and nice run bro.
Etown has allowed me to dip into the 12's during time trials. They do make a point of warning me and I explain that I can't be expected to hit 13.5 in eliminations without some practice. And then everything is fine. They just want to make you aware of the rule, but if you're gonna fight them I guess it's just easier to send you home.
Personally, I fail to see the differences in safety between time trials and eliminations. I don't understand what makes my butt any safer at 11.5 during time trials. No matter, I win just as often while sandbagging and nobody seems to mind as long as the track made me do it.

Hey C5, a race is a race. You can dial hard or sandbag and it shouldn't matter to anyone. If your opponent cuts a good light and runs his number he'll win unless you do a better job. Really doesn't matter how you do it.

Point well taken, but it does matter. I don't consider it racing when someone uses their brakes on the drag strip.
Actually it states competition exhaust permitted as long as you have mufflers and directed to rear of car. Racing gas permitted. Drag radials permitted. No slicks. No power adders, turbo or super. You can bolt on, but you can't get in! Fuzzy is just mad because he dosn't have to worry about going that fast.

Mea Culpa on the exceptions to the pure stock rule...I was remembering from the link that was posted on here last year when they made the rule change...btw, you are now in my book, sodapop...

Well i agree with you 100%,weather i lose it doing 100 mph,or 115 mph,my a** is still gonna hurt regardless, but i guess we need to respect the techs rules, but hey,im happy enough that i ran as well as i did with the little mods i have
I was hoping to see you Dan, but the weather got us. Shawn and I were talking at the last race about Dec & Jan instead of June & August. Better weather and faster cars.
