Posted over in C4 Tech , not much response.
Am destroying the inside of the half shaft yoke where the uni fits on stock D44 halfshafts.
Has raised lip of alum ,paper thin approx 3mm high
Have only done 50 passes on street tyres with zz4 cammed 95K L98.( 1.84s)
All new components , have also taken out the camber arm bushes (VBP poly ).
Time for alum bushes and steel haftshafts?
Down here in the colonies , not so easy as ringing up Denny's for some new parts , will have to get made here.
Any one else had this problem?
Am building 383 for next season and if I am doing this damage with stocker doubt will get very far.
Have brand new Brute Force , unable to get recommended Spicers in correct size down here.
RH unis have more play (minimal ) than LH ones but both halfshafts have the pounding out of the cup seat on the inside of the yoke.
The cups were as tight coming out as going in .
The damage in fairly uniform around the hole, not only on the front /rear faces as you would expect from rotational loads.
The fact that I have destroyed the camber bushes indicates to me that I am generating a lot of side loading as in the tyre being pulled in and out on rear squat because the trailing arm bushes show no sign of wear reasonably expected from the rotational forces of the diff twisting against the car.
How far did you run them until swapping them out?
Are you running solid bushes in the camber arm?
Have open track day (unlimited runs ) next Sun that I want to do some test and tune at , then car can stay in shed until new engine ready.
Hope everytning hangs together.
Thanks
Here is a link from a thread I read into yesterday, it offers some great discussion and experience. It originally was a 60' time thread that evolved into C4 IRS setups and shortcomings.
Since you went further then the half shaft question, I think you can find what your looking for here
