Hey guy's,
I have been running on E.T. Streets, 26x11.5-16, on CCW drag wheels.
I am overpowering the track now with a new engine setup. I plan to try using a tube and screwing the tire to the wheel.....so I can lower tire pressure, safely. Any other tire reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hold off on screwing the tires and installing tubes. You can run 10lbs in the ET streets with out a problem. Mark the tires at the valve stem and see how much the tire is moving on the rim if it moves at all. I would change to 28" Hoosiers before I add screws and tubes. But I feel you should be fine with the ET Streets. The tubes are a very tight fit on the 16" rim and that creates other issues hold off. There are a ton of guys running in the 9's with out tubes. Remember you need a little spin.
Marc, I remember runnin' 10-12lbs in the E.T. Streets..with low 1.5 lauches from an idle on my stroker. I wouldn't screw with the tires just yet. Try a little change in the tire pressure....Just my .02
Thanks for the replies, guy's.
I have run the car at the 10-12Lb pressure before............on a heavy car,(3650) it gets hairy I think before I drop to those pressures I will look at other options..........including screwing the tire.

Hope this helps
I agree with these guys. I just got back from the track and cut 1.45, 1.44, and 1.42 on the same tires. 26x11.5x16 MT et streets. My tire pressure was between 10.5 and 12 with no tubes and no issues so far. I have run as low as 9.5 psi.
I decided to experiment and just bought a pair of M&H drag slicks in size 12x16. I thought they would only be .5 inches wider than the etstreets but they are huge(maybe 2" wider). I decided to mount them on 16x11 ccw rims. I haven't tried them yet but I will let you know if they work. I'm concerned they may be too much tire for my power and may need to sell them if I can't spin those meats.
I am running a 345/30/18 bfg dr with 1.52-1.55 60's on a good prep track day. They move ~3" after a day pf racing.
I would not screw/tube it either.
Psi is 15-19 hot depending on track/Air temp.
Tire pressure is key with either.
How old are your tires?

I can't answer for Marc on the age of the tires but I talked to him the other night. He has a heavy car and when he lowered the pressure to 12 lbs it was not a pleasant experience at the top end of the track.

He's also worried about blowing a tire at 120+.
My 97' as raced with me strapped in and a full tank of gas at the line is.................3680
Age can be an issue........how much good rubber is remaining is a bigger one in my book in this case

I know he's around 3700. I'll call him and tell him to get his azz in here.
The tires are fairly new...........they have been aligned to "0" everything with me in it. I worry about the stability at these low tire pressures. I know of one guy who ended up on top of the concrete wall when his tire's bead let go.

How about the weight? Was I close? I know that added to your concern.
Not to be a smart *** but that is all relative!
If they have no rubber left that could be part of the problem.
I say that cause my dr's were worn down to cause wheel hop off the line!
I am an automatic. I got a best of 1.59 but wheel hop is a bad thing on the parts breakage view so I got a used set of the same tires and had no issues again or.........my 97 has a regular street alignment and it hooks great off of that
Your compairing apples to oranges........Dr's to Bias ply........can't be done.
Have you never seen/raced on worn out bias plys.......I have and they seem the same to me........they will not hook any more. That was my point.........not enough rubber, not enough hooky action
I agree to the better hooking with more rubber..........what I was refering to was the difference in the rigidity of the tire and how the bias tire will "wobble" from side to side....sorry if I offended you!

All is good
Oh the wobble........that is one reason I like my drs
