Default Power vs Durability?

At what point, horsepower-wise, do I need to be concerned about breaking stuff in my '02 Z? (e.g. output shaft, rear end, etc)

I am getting MT 275 40/17's put on tomorrow so I was just wondering...

I'm mostly stock - see sig.

Also, where can I find some good information on launching techniques?

I've seen guys break drive-train components on the factory tires. Your new tires will definitely put more stress on things so the risk of breaking something will increase. Frequent hard launches will take a toll, it's just a matter of time. Some guys are lucky, some aren't. You should consider a hardened output shaft (long) and a DTE strut brace. Also, the factory clutch will likely give you trouble.

thanks! I appreciate that.

Can you tell me what exactly the strut brace does? I've been trying to find info all over the internet and pretty much what I have found is that they decrease the struts' ability to move in relation to each other.

Is this correct?

If so, does that mean it helps with the wheel hop problem caused by the IRS?

Or does the strut brace go on the front to reduce body roll? I just assumed you meant rear due to the drag strip application. (I'm a newbie - forgive my ignorance)

The strut brace is a steel skeleton that goes around the transmission/differential assembly to add rigidity. Information and a picture can be found at:

Your new tires should solve the wheel hop problem.

oooooooh ok! cool!

I had seen that thing somewhere while I was looking around for "strut brace". I thought that could possibly be what you were talking about.

Thanks a million for the info!
