I've seen guys break drive-train components on the factory tires. Your new tires will definitely put more stress on things so the risk of breaking something will increase. Frequent hard launches will take a toll, it's just a matter of time. Some guys are lucky, some aren't. You should consider a hardened output shaft (long) and a DTE strut brace. Also, the factory clutch will likely give you trouble.
Can you tell me what exactly the strut brace does? I've been trying to find info all over the internet and pretty much what I have found is that they decrease the struts' ability to move in relation to each other.
Is this correct?
If so, does that mean it helps with the wheel hop problem caused by the IRS?
Or does the strut brace go on the front to reduce body roll? I just assumed you meant rear due to the drag strip application. (I'm a newbie - forgive my ignorance)
The strut brace is a steel skeleton that goes around the transmission/differential assembly to add rigidity. Information and a picture can be found at: http://www.dynotech-eng.com/dte_c5_diff_strut.htm
Your new tires should solve the wheel hop problem.
