OK fellow racers.........with relocated batteries. I have gone thru two of Moroso's super duty disconnect switches and it's driving me nuts. The problem is I loose conductivity for the alternator. The two small contact studs loose contact. I thought I burned up the first switch and bought another.......then it happened again! I broke open the origanal switch to find nothing wrong with the contacts! Why is this happening? I wrote to Rick Moroso.....no reply. I called and spoke to a Tech rep at Moroso....he said the Alt. contacts cannot handle more than 20 amps. and to use a relay from Painless! That's BS
Can any of you guys that run this type of setup give me a clue? Maybe another switch you use? I am sure it is wired correctly, wire size is more than adequate. I don't want to have a tech problem at the Nationals.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated,
Battery moved to middle trunk recess in NHRA box.
Welding cables to frame and to starter.
8 ga. wire from alternator to battery.
High Amp. Jegs or Summitt lever switch with disconnect arm
out through body to rear of car, must break welding cable going
to starter.
I put 200A resetable "breaker" between alterantor and batt. in the 8 Ga. wire. in case 8 ga. wire decides to melt and short out!
I also wired in Batt. taps inside my trunk area so I would not have to open up my middle recess every time I needed to get to the Batt.
Works fine no problems so far and when Tech pushes rear handle with car running everything shuts down!
Thanks JR, I also got a PM from Paul Major..........he gave me Bob's # at NRC..........Basicly all agree th just connect Alt wire to the off side of the battery switch and forget the small terminals. This way, when the switch is in the off position, the battery AND alt are disconnected!
Thanks again to all.........
