Look at the certification tag in the helmet.

Most drag strips will let you use a current SNELL approved "M" rated helmet.

Now you need at least a Snell 95 helmet at a NHRA track; for next season you will need at least a Snell 96.

Is there such a thing as a Snell 96? I thought Snell revised it's certificates every 5 years.

I am pretty sure that last year NHRA notified everyone they would soon require at least a Snell 2000 rating so you would need either a Snell 2000 or a Snell 2005. (They do upgrade it every 5 years.) Also, most tracks I have been to don't even check the helment. I guess it just depends on where you go.

If they do hold you to the rules an M rated helment will not be adequate. The M rating is for motorcycles and it is not flame proof. Helments made for auto racing that meet Snell requirements are.
