Default What am I doing wrong?

Took my 2006 MN6 Coupe to the strip today, and frankly, I'm disappointed. I got four runs in. The first I bogged pretty badly, and ended up just finishing up the run at half speed.

The next three runs were pretty consistent 13.6 to 13.7 ETs, at between 107-109 MPH. 60 foot times were all in the 2.1 to 2.2 range. Slips claim the air temps were 95 degrees, but my car was registering more like 85 degrees. I was launching at just a hair below 2000 rpms, and felt like I was hooking up pretty good (as evidenced by the respectable 60 ft times).

Seems to me that with those 60ft times and those trap speeds, I should be doing better than 13.6.-13.7. I will admit to lifting ever so slightly on the gas during shifts. Is that enough to lose a whole second off what others are getting?

I know no one here really knows the answer, but I was frustrated I couldn't beat the best time of my CLK 55 AMG (13.2 at 109). Just venting, I guess.

hmm.. well i think you need some seat time.. even with stock tires you should be able to get a 1.90 ish 60 .. your car stock should be low 13's // turn traction control off

I've seen stock LS2 GTO's run faster than that...and they are heavy. You're definitely off the pace a bit. Take it back to the track in 60 degree air and it will be a different situation all together. From what I understand, LS2's are bad about pulling timing in hot weather.

95 is pretty hot but I agree, seat time will help.
I drive an auto so cannot really offer pointers

Drag radials will help too

Welcome to the real world.

PS, a thread last week on how quick a 6 speed was as to a auto Vette became a little warm. Those 6 speeds are not as fast as one would like to believe that they are. Drag racing, get a automatic!

I think I talked to you if you are the guy with the magnetic red C6. Your car temp was probably closer to the correct temp. My car was registering in the mid 80's also. I got one slip that said that it was 99 degrees!

I got to watch one of your runs, probably your last run, and your tires spun slightly off the line. My times indicated that the DA was around 2500. I never did find anybody with a weather station.

By the way, you were correct in that a .5xx reaction time was something to feel good about. A .500 light is a perfect light at Capitol Raceway, and a .499 light is a red light.

Damn your good. Yep, that's me. Except my RT when up against you was 1.1! I guess I fell asleep.

Even if the wheels did spin (and I know they did some), my 60 foot times were 2.184, 2.176 and 2.248. You saw the 2.248 one. Even if I got down to a 1.9, I'm still running a 13.4 or so.

Nice talking to you the other day. Hope you had fun. I guess I just need more seat time.

It was off. But you're probably right. This was the first time I took a manual to the strip. Humbling.

The temps on the line were in the mid 90s. The altitude @ Capitol was not ideal for all motor setups. With the C6 your fighting torque management as well as air temps. Basically its all in the setup. Did you see the silver C5 with the caravaggio wing and ET streets? He clicked off some high 10s @ 131 with just a 346 N/A in the heat of the day.

Sorry if I missed it, but I assume you are just running street tires.

I don't think that the 60' times are too bad if that is the case. And as others have stated, get some drag radials and those time should improve, hence quicker and faster ET's.

I run a '99 FRC, and when it was stock, was running the same times on drag radials. With your C6, I think you should run faster then you are now, but don't expect a lot with out some sticky tires.

I now have 425 Hp to the ground with MT ETstreets on CCW drag wheels and ran 7.502 in the 1/8th and will find out this weekend what the car will do in the 1/4. Hoping for a 11.5 run.

BTW, just previous to 2 weeks ago (Heads and Cam install) I was only at 345 Hp and could blow the doors off a lot of C5's, some with TT @>500 Hp because of the tires. Left them spinning on the line with their 2.xxx 60' times. I would usually run a 12.4xx @ 111 MPH with a 1.68 60'

HawkIVette;

Yeah, I'm bone stock. I know that drag radials would help, a lot. But I see some folks are in the 12's in a stock C6. I'm resigning myself to the fact that I just need more sea time and to learn to speedshift.

You're probably right. Keep up the practice and have fun.

Good luck
