quick update from Revxtreme Corvette Challenge
Craig Gingerich runner-up, Tracy Lewis and Marc Fischer were seminfinalist. Congrats guys!
Definitely some good racing today!
Anybody want to lone me a vette for the last two races?
having hurt the motor in my truck 2 weeks-ago while towing my fiance's car here going through the hills of West by-Gawd Virginnie (after finishing the last 800+ miles of that journey at 45 MPH with the heater running to help keep the motor cool, it is currently awaiting a transplant at RevXtreme ), I was unable to tow the '82, but BERNADETTE encouraged me to go anyhow, figuring "how could a bone-stock, 15-second Corvette on 'hard' street-tires hurt-itself?????"
Upon leaving I-75 at Exit 220, I tapped the brakes at the bottom of the ramp, and the car swerved-slightly to the Left, which was very-strange, but I turned Left on Rt. 64, and continued towards Bradenton Motorsports Park, about 8 miles away:
half-way there, I came upon a red-light at a shopping-plaza, and THIS time, the car swerved Left again, then the brake-pedal went to the floor as the car stopped, with Black smoke spewing from the Right front fender-well, so I pulled-into the plaza parking-lot, for a quick look/see.....
I couldn't see any fluids (all the gauges read normal ), nor could I smell anything, so I wearily crept down Rt. 64 to the track, hoping to find a car, name, or face I recognized for HELP!!!!!
When I arrived at the track, there were just 4 motor-homes/trucks-trailers in-line, none-of-which had names I knew from this Forum, and, knowing the Corvette was in no-condition to be raced, I decided I'd head back towards the Interstate, either trying to limp the car back-home, or call for help from the intersection of Rt. 64 and I-75:
as he drove into the morning-sun, I recognized GSC3, towing his 10-second racer, past me, although I doubt he saw me 'waving' to him.....
By the time I crawled back to I-75, there was very-little brake-pedal left, and I began to smell brake-fluid and/or grease burning, so I pulled into a Citgo, where I received the name and number of a local service-guy who often repaired cars in that parking-lot:
he agreed to bring his service-truck and meet me at the Citgo when he was done on his present call.....
Arriving at noon, we jacked-up and took-apart the front-wheel assemblies, and found the flex-hose for the Right-front caliper to be cracked and the caliper itself began leaking:
that wheel had gotten so-hot, the chrome-plating on the wheel began to blister and bubble.....
I'm probably lucky the car didn't burn to the ground.
We spent the rest of the afternoon chasing-parts, replacing both front calipers & flex hoses, repacking the grease in the Right front bearing, which looked-fine, (and him, answering his cell-phone the entire time ), then decided while we were at-it, we'd also bleed the rear-brakes, too:
no-matter what we did, the Left REAR caliper kept pumping air out of the system, and the brake-pedal wouldn't 'pump-up'.....
Finally, with 70 miles between us and home & only 90 minutes of day-light left, BERNADETTE (who'd called-off work and driven-down to help in any-way she could ) and I had no-choice but to try limping the Corvette, with almost NO-BRAKES, back to our new home:
I felt like a jerk, not-having my truck, trailer, or tools with me, and couldn't imagine what it'd cost to have the car flat-bedded back.
Driving 45 MPH with the hazard/warning lights flashing the entire way, we safely got the car put into it's garage just as the sun-light faded-away, thus ending my first day of 'racing' in Florida:
this being my first-ever Corvette, never having had any troubles with it before, and having NO-IDEA what the problem may/may-not be, once I get the truck returned later this week from RevXtreme, I will tow the car to Van Steel (who will eventually put a stronger I.R.S. in the car ), hoping they can solve this problem well-enough that I can make future Corvette Challenge Series events before they tear into the rear-end/differential, possibly later this Winter.
Are we having-fun yet?????

Congrats to those who made it to BMP today, to those who competed, and to the Winners:
your chance to beat the slowest Corvette in Florida will have to wait.....

Damn Glen that sucks but like Fuzzy said get the AAA.
On to the race...... CONGRATULATIONS Larry

The vacuum outlet broke off my FAST intake leaving me with a hole and no brake assist. The car is a RevX now for repair .. hope to make the next race.
Might be a "first time to BMP curse". My first trip to BMP was as a spectator. Fuzzy encouraged me on the forum to make the trip. I stuffed my son, who was 7 at the time in the rear cargo area and my wife in the passenger seat.
As we approached the entrance gate, my wife asked, " what's all that smoke from?" a quick glance at the guages showed normal stats, so I parked the car and saw that one of the heater hoses had broken. I had some tools in the back with my son, so I bypassed the heater, filled the radiator back up with water, and made it home OK, after watching GSC3 and My95 race in the finals. I think My95 won that event. Can't remember becuase I've seen those 2 in more than one final and GSC3 won one also.

P.M. me some time, I'll give you my cell phone #

Ollie, you were driving head-on, into the morning-sun, and you were probably squinting as you went past me.
Hopefully you'll make it to the next Corvettechallenge!!
I've noticed you are now ambidextrus.

does 'ambidextrus' means he makes his letters backwards (note picture ) ?

Killing me Glen
He can use either hand.

Craig will not settle for less than a win any more!
I suck as a driver.
Every single time someone borrowed this car, they won the event.

I'm sure it was.....
