Rodney at RPM Transmissions just installed a trans-brake on my Stage V 4L65E (3 speed) transmission. I have not track tested it yet but several tests on the street are extremely promising. The brake holds the car without creep all the way up to the converter stall speed (3900). It releases without any apparent delay. The car now leaves hard - even with a 2000 rpm launch; much better than foot braking.
The modification requires the installation of a deeper pan. Rossler makes the internal parts but Rodney does some tweaking. He will soon have kits for this mod available. He tells me that any competent transmission shop can handle the mod but if you're any where near his shop in Sulphur Springs, Indiana I highly recommend having him do the work. If you're thinking about this mod I suggest having a transmission temperature gage installed at the same time. I have found that the transmission temperature is critical for a clean engagement and release. If the fluid is not up to normal operating temperatures the brake can be sluggish. Some of the tweaking that Rodney does reduces the release time.
This mod is NOT for everyone but if you're a serious drag racer running a 4L60/65E interested in improving the way your car reacts on launch, and probably reducing 60 foot times this is something to consider. Give RPM a call at 800-406-1109.
Edgar, you might want to look into a Biondo 5-0 trans brake switch. Its adjustable and great for the pro .500 tree. The adjustable button is used when a delay box is not allowed.
Just a reminder that a transbrake is not allowed in most foot brake classes.
[QUOTE=1996LT1]A transbrake is not allowed in any footbrake class
A former NHRA tech inspector told me having the brake in the car would not be a problem in a foot-brake class. Using it would obviously be illegal but worst case you disconnect the wires.
