Default Initial post-mortem exam (it ain't pretty!)

For those of you who run the BMP Corvette Challenge, you'll remember last year's last race.... in which the previous owner of my '96 coupe (Legion21) nuked the left lane of the track. I started working on pulling the engine out and apart a couple of days ago... the initial result isn't pretty.

"The following contains graphic images of carnage...viewer discretion advised"

Here you have an overview of #8 cylinder... Looks like cast piston failure may have reared its ugly head.

Here's a closeup... through the water jacket (uh oh! this can't be good)

From the cylinder side..it's painfully obvious something's missing (the cylinder WALL, maybe? - ouchies!)

Like I said... it ain't pretty.. but that's drag racing! More pics to follow once I get the engine the rest of the way out. Fortunately, the cylinder head didn't look to be too bad (no severe damage.., maybe need a couple of valves and a resurface job...nothing bent or cracked).
I've got a couple of core LT1 engines laying around, so it looks as if I'll have to put one of them together. All forged .030 over (no stroker B.S... old skool style overboring!).

I'll keep you all posted...

I've got one that looks almost just like that. I'm looking at a solid roller 355 soon.

Yeah, but it let go off the spray... new bottom end will support a 200 shot this time out (not that I'll go that much, but it's good to have a cushion)
