Let's try this again...my other post went to a parallel dimension apparently...
At yeaterday's NHRA event, Greg Anderson got timed out versus Erica Enders...she went in first and lit both bulbs...he went in and lit his top bulb and then tried to burn her down...he timed out at seven seconds, per the rule...
He came flying out of his car claiming some goofball rule whereby, if a racer double bulbs you, autostart is defeated and you can then take as much time as you want to stage..he, Line and Black all claimed to have been told this by "someone" at the beginning of the year...
It is my understanding that the rule book says "courtesy staging" is exempt for the pro's...I have never heard of this double bulb deal Anderson is in a tither about..has anyone else?..how many think Anderson will actually name his source for this so-called rule now that he opened his mouth on national TV using it as his defense?....
I think Erica took a shot at shaking him up and it worked...I also think Anderson then decided to teach her a lesson and burn her down but screwed the pooch by lighting the 3rd bulb and activating Autostart...to me it is hard to believe Anderson, with all his experience, does not know exactly what the rule says...
..... I'd never heard of the rule that Anderson mentioned, but I'm not 'up' on different rules for the Pros, and because Anderson is usually gracious in victory or defeat, I gave him the benifit of the doubt when I saw his interview:
I recall Lepone backing-up from a burnout and stopping DEAD on the line, with both bulbs lit many years ago (before AutoStart ), causing quite a stir.....
Although what Enders did technically probably isn't illegal, stunts like that, and popping-off to other drivers who beat her (after losing on a hole-shot a few years ago, I believe she sarcastically-quipped to her conquerer, "Good-guess" ? ), she ain't gonna have too-many friends left in the pits.....
IF a courtesy stage rule is enforced at a track the starter would back both cars off & restage. Otherwise what is stated above is correct. I have never heard of the "GA" rule. We have 10 seconds before autostart down here. Pro's have 7.
Don't get me wrong, I am not a big Erica fan and, in fact, I like Anderson....I just thought he looked a bit foolish yesterday...I had a notion this "rule" he spoke of might be one of those deals that are not in the rule book but are in the track owners manual...lol..
Tracy...curiously, in the Summit Series over here in Orlando they turn off the Autostart which kind of irks me...btw, how ironic was it when Bader had to hand the Wally to Connolly after banning him for life from that track several years ago?...
Sadly, I have never seen the courtesy rule enforced at any track at any time...

I'm with you...GA screwed up when he lit his prestage.
