Default 1999 corvette coupe engine mods?

O.K. fellas, need some speed. I'm thinking about a new intake manifold, like a bbk ssi. with a 80mm throttle body, a new mass air flow sensor and a ram air intake system. I already have a cat back corsa pro-touring with tiger shark tips. We all know it's all about moving air so my question is has any one tryed this combo? Do you guys think this is a good setup? Do you know a better one? How much H.P. do you think this is worth? Do i have to make any changes to the computer? Thanks guys.

Headers, varam & a tune will give you the best bang for your $. You could try to find a used LS2 intake manifold for another 5hp. You don't need a bigger TB,etc. stock is good for you now.

Also if you have an A4, gears & torque converter are big improvements

Thanks for getting back so soon. I'm not sure what u mean by "varam" and can you be more detailed about a "tune" like what that involves thanks.

Sorry I spelled it wrong, it's Vararam
http://www.vararam.com/b2.html
You should go to your local performance tuner and have them fix you up. There's plenty of them in the area, Cartek, Vette Doctors, and of course
East Coast Supercharging.

Skip the intake manifold until you get more done.
Skip the throttle body, the stock on flows fine
Skip the Mass Airflow sensor, they cause more problems.

Buy the ram air intake system, headers and get a tune

The best headers will be point of debate... I would go with a high quality set from one of the forum vendors. I use American Racing Headers

What kind of 1/4 mile time do you think this car would run with street tires and the mods you told me about?

Street tires will be your biggest hinderance and I would consider a drag radial purchase one of your first modifications if you are planning on running several times a year.

I am guessing your plan is to run with us in the Corvette Challenge so a set of drag radials would be a good first investment with those mods.

You will want them to help your consistency. Street tires are very inconsistent.

Now you have to make a decistion on wheels tires.

You may want a sepreate set of wheels to use on race days whether you drive on them or change them at the track.

You can use the stock rims. I used stock front magnesium rims(17x8.5) to mount MT drag radials(274/40/17) on them. They will provide plenty of traction for a bolt on car like yourself. Most favor the MT drag radials over others.

Thanks, since we're talking about a whole lot of traction, we should talk about the clutch i guess. Hows the stock one hold up? I would guess not so good, whats a good set-up for the trany and clutch?

Nice... I am glad they made the change. I emailed them regarding the error after I saw the article.
