My take is that the instructions were quite clearly posted on etown's website:

1) Sign up for Yahoo groups
2) Send an email with the requested information at 12:01am
3) The first 500 responses are in and are to wait for a phone call.

It was pretty straight forward to me, the only hard part is figuring out if your computer's clock was synchronized to the Yahoo group's clock. I'm not saying I am one of the lucky 400, but I hope I am.

I'm unclear on one thing. I used the newly created Yahoo email address to send my registration at 12:01:01 to the designated pinks@etown address. I did synch the clocks as I had caught the fact that the countdown clock was set for midnight, not 12:01. I got a message back almost immediately that the email account was not registered with the pinks@etown group blah, blah, blah. But it was - how else would I have properly registered for the thing?

Was the fact that I cc'd the registration email to my regular email account what caused the thing to bounce?

I resent the thing from yahoo account immediatly and it bounce dagaind for the same reason.

Was the fact I designated my regular email account as the one I wanted to receive notifications from the pinks@etowngroup the one being used as the email account that they were testing to see if I was properly a member of the group?

All I know is that by the time I jumped over to the regular email account, grabbed the email I cc'd to that account and forwarded it to the pinks@etown email address it was 12:06 and I was screwed.

Anybody got a clue about this?

PS. This was the message I received "The email address used to send your message is not subscribed to this group. If you are a member of this group, please be aware that you may only send messages to this group using the email address(es) you have registered with Yahoo! Groups."

I received a call from Wayne Paul today around 5:30 so in know he is in the process of making calls. I personaly used the post feature in the group to send my email and watched the clock on there till i knew it was going to turn to 12:01 and then hit send.

Mark, i was afraid of that problem to so i tried the post feature instead.

Yeah, I know I'm hosed. I just want to understand what I did wrong. Must be something to do with the fact that I had to join Yahoo to then subscribe to the Pinks group. Somehow I must have registered my ct.metrocast.net email address as the one they were going to use to test whether or not I was a registered member of that group. I don't remember that step but so be it. I do recall all sorts of entries for designating which email address I wanted to [I]receive[I] emails from the Pinks group but I don't recall designating the email account that the Pinks group would validate membership with. I just assumed it was the Yahoo account. But you know that word assume - the 1st 3 letters go alongside the king sized L for loser on my forehead.

It was a fair process. No complaints.

I got a "registration closed" and "2nd step" email notification but I conclude they were sent to all registered members of the Pinks group. Receiving them has nothing to do with making the cut.

Mark, i found it much easier. I was watching the end of a good movie at 12:01, then when i remembered to send the note around 12:10, i realized i had no idea what i was doing, so i posted the word "Hi" and went to bed..... Guess i should have read the directions

Hopefully Chris will get in and drag me along

as big a pain as it seem and as unfair,as it looks, this is a whole lot better then when we hosted pinks all out last year, we had hundreds of cars show up days in advance to sign up, they were out there for 2 whole days trying to get it. the pinks guys really do a good job putting it on, i spent 22 hours that day in freezing temps, and through most of it Rich was right there next to us. we had one of the most memorable episodes they have ever made, but we got cancelled due to cold at 2 am. but we had a great time, you guys who make it will have one hell of a memory. i think its awesome i can download my episode from i tunes and watch it anytime i want! My mom was pissed they spelled my name wrong though

Mark yes the issue you had was you sent the mail from a an address that was not registered with the yahoo group.

I wish you had contacted me.... I answered dozens of questions on the process.

Basically the group was done to control the flow of email and not kill etowns site...I think the move was brilliant.

However the that meant that the email that was sending the email had to match the email that you registered with the group. I have a yahoo email but my email is sent through a gmail server..had I sent it from my email I would have gotten the same message. I know because I tested to be sure.

I also used the "post" route on the yahoo group.

Sorry you missed it Mark.

Shen congrats on the callback

Edgar,
I registered with the Yahoo group & put MY email address as the address linked or the one to receive responses.
Are you saying since I emailed NOT from the yahoo email, mine didn't get through & I SHOULD have emailed from the YAHOO address I created??

Yep, I got that too Mark. I sent it from my Yahoo account. For all intents and purposes, they really should have accepted Email from either account listed but thats not the way it works. Thats just my opinion, but they tried to be as fair to everyone as they could so I can appreciate that.

So it's a pretty safe bet that if I didn't send the email until roughly 12:14 that I have no chance whatsoever of getting in, correct?

Here's an update from WP:

http://forums.godragracing.com/viewtopic.php?t=61902

Posted: Wed Jan 09, 2008 1:23 pm Post subject: Pinks All Out phone call status:

I've called 271 e-mails between 12:01.00 and 12:01.26

Out of that ,263 are set in stone. Out of the 8 remaining,3 people left me no phone numbers,2 were duplicates, and 3 don't answer thier phones.I also had 7 e-mails that requested 2 racers/racecars and were denied(GREETY,Don't you think),one asked for 4 people. That's where were at.I'm going to try to finish this up by Thursday night. Will most likely be more than 400.I will not start a time stamp without completing it.No one has failed the "interview".Most people are very excited, which I find refreshing.

Be patient.......................Isn't that right Melissa?

Thanks Eric...

My email must have gotten hung up by a server..

Most emails were received :.02-:.04 after they were time stamped sent.

If I sent at 12:01:13, and he already called up to 12:01:26, seems like I'm skating on thin ice..
