Iroc Auction
IROC is going out of business and will have a big auction. Everything will go and the auction will conducted by my son-in-law Steve. Their shop is just off GSP exit 105 in Jersey.
Don't want to burst your bubble but, its also an online auction which means the amount of people bidding will be very numerous.... way beyond just the people in attendence. I wouldn't doubt that some of the stuff there will bring some big money. There could be some bargains, but bring plenty of cash if you want to take something home. Looks from what I read on the Website that they could not secure sponsorship to keep it going. Thats a real shame, I can't believe that with NASCAR's popularity and motorsports in general being popular these days with the media, that a sponsor couldn't be found. I guess the interest just isn't there anymore.
I went to both days of the auction. There were a lot of crazy over bidding on tools and equipment. For example a Makita cut off saw that was $169 new, sold for $249. Another great example was 194 cases of Mobil 1 Synthetic 15w-50 sold for $45 a case, that is only 6 bottles per case, I think the bidder thought he was buying cases of 12.
It was great to talk to the shop guys who have been there since the begininng. Talked to someone about the Carbon rotors ($6k new) and beautiful sets of Brembos. It was sad to see the faces of the shop folks watch equipment get sold off.
The cars sold for $27k to 78k (from what I remember) depending on names who drove and I think how the car was covered in stickers. I think the last winning IROC car from 2006 sold for the $78k
The signed IROC photos sold for a premium too. An Earnhart driving suit went for $1700. It was worth missing a day of work, but then again, anything is better than being at work.....
