I want ask Your opinions on how {those of You who have them} like 'em!
Are they ok for street driving as well?
I've never had one,so I want to make sure it's gonna be a "good thing".
I'm thinking about a 2400-2600 one,not too big,so please give Me Your input.
Thanks as always,George
I've driven a 4500 converter on the street and others here have driven on the street with as big as 5000 RPM converters.. Anything below 4000 RPM stall speed should give you very good streetability, especially if you can still lock up your converter. You might need to upgrade transmission cooling if you go with a converter bigger than 3500 RPM but I'm not sure about C4's or newer as I've only ran big converters on my C3..
With a 2400 - 2600 converter, you really won't see much of a difference in regular driving conditions..
In the C5 Tech section there is a question about Yank vs Vigilante - it is not important which one is better but you will get a lot of answers to your question - all positive.
I have the Yank SS3600 in my C5 - it is my daily driver- my wife drives it and never has said anything about it being "nasty." Once you get on it you will know the difference!! If you go with other mods later you will regret the smaller converter. The trans cooler is inexpensive and a good idea. If you don't go with other mods later on you will still enjoy it. When I changed to the Yank converter 1/4 mile time dropped by a half second!!

I have a yank 3800 in now. Before I had a yank 3200. Both are fine on the street. The 3200 was a real nice street converter. Dropped the 60' time by over a tenth from stock, easily. A cooler was also put on at the same time. Either way, get rid of the stock one, it is a huge improvement...
SY3500 with cooler. runs in the 170-195 range depending on time of year. If I'm stuck in traffic jams and temp outside is 95 it can climb up to 205-210 for a short time. Typical drive for me is 3.5 miles of traffic and 7 miles of freeway and if its under 80 degress outside the tranny temp will be about 170 when I reach my destination. Its a little loose at stop & go but you get used to it fast. Comments from the unaware are " Gee your car sounds like its going faster than it actually is".
Allow me to chime in as well...
I have ran the Yank SY3500 on my 4th Gen Fbod, a great converter for the DD/Track/HWY... Very efficient due to the lower STR..
Currently running a Precision Industries (Vigilante) 3600 stall and waiting on my Level4 4L60E from RPM..
Here is an analogy...
Ever ride/drive a speed boat? Once you hit the throttle how it stands up and there is no lull between shifts? the RPM's stay up in the powerband.. this is what the stall does for ya..
As stated above, you should try to match the stall to your gears, i would say a 3200-3600 for a DD.. Oh yeah, get a good tune!
Everybody,,,,,thank You so much for all the comments!!
I "did" just buy a 2400 stall from TJ at RPM{great Guy}and He said They would "spec" it for My gears, blower{Maggie}and other factors!Again,,You guys are great, and anymore comments are welcome!
