I am so frustrated that I missed the first race, seriously considered driving my wounded car there just to stage and get a point in the first round but thought better of it. Was afraid I would do more damage, or the clutch would give out totally and leave me stranded. Any way, since I missed out on the first points race of the season, I have decided to try and make a go of it in the 11.5 index.
The best I could muster last year was a 12.21 @ 116.82. I will be swapping out my clutch next weekend, and still have no runs so far this year to test out the changes I have made. Those changes are as follows,
3:70 to 4:11 rear
MT drag radials to Hoosier 8" slicks (could never get those mts to hook)
Ralley wheels in back to alluminum wheels (saving 25 lbs including tires)
Flex fan saving 2 lbs
new balancer saving 1.5 lbs
QA1 adjustable shocks in rear
I have no idea if I have done enough to even make the field, but I have decided to go for it!

Don't sweat it. You have 2 weeks till the next race. Can you get to the track before the next race? It is in 2 weeks. I will be going as much as possible to tune and get some seat time.
It's a clutch problem, dont think I woud have broke down and cost anybody time, was thinking of just taking the light getting point and then throwing it in reverse and driving down the return road a 10 mph. If I was a little closer to track might have done it.
will do clutch Sat. If it goes well I will test Sunday, if it does'nt go well (and things never seem to) don't know when I would be able to get to track to test. Might try to leave work early, but that is never a guarantee.

Unless your clutch was slipping BADLY, I don't think your changes will get you down to 11.50.
The MT DR's hook GREAT for me. Surprised you had issues with them.
Regardless, good luck in your quest!
Clutch never slipped last year, blew it on first race this year. Theoretically speaking 116 mph could get me to 11.5. I beleive the changes I have made will go along way towards getting me there. I had no luck with the Mts, it was brought to my attention after I got them that they are not the best match for a manual. My 60 foot on my 12.21 run was a 2.0+, if I could get that down to a 1.8.......
Arch are you saying you are giving up on the the brackets to focus on 11.50?
I would hardly think that would be the best thing to do. The number one spot is vastly coveted but Top 16 has a very huge impact.
Top 16 in brackets earn jackets and are eligible for the Gamblers invitational that pays $1,400 to win four rounds this year. We don't have such an offering for 11.50. The 16th driver in 2007 has 24 points which even over 9 races is only 2.5 points per race and with one stage point we are talking 1 and half round average over 9 races.
I am not trying to discourage you from 11.50, love to have ya, but don't give up on brackets after one race.

Do you have a 68 like your sig says?
I have a manual & the MT DR's hook up WELL!. MUCH more consistent then the BFG DR's, for me anyway.
I also don't agree that 116mph can get you 11.50. On my C5Z I ran a best of 11.67@119.XX w/ a 1.711 60' time in GOOD air & approx. 365 RWHP at that time.
The Hoosier slicks MIGHT be overkill...i think your weight savings & target 60' time can net you .3-.4 in ET reduction..
Not trying to be negative or confuse you, just giving my opinion. Hope you prove me wrong! lol
According to the vaunted hook factor, I make enough power to go sub 11.5. Don't get me wrong, I know that punching numbers and actually executing are two differnet things. Won't know for sure till I get out there and test.
As for the Mickey's, after I bought them had some one bring to my attention that they are not very forgiving for manuals, checked their website and it clearly says not recomended for for manual cars. If you have had success, God bless you. My best 60 was with my 7'' street tires. I would either bog or spin could'nt fing that happy spot.
Anyway the changes I have made should get me going in the right direction having addressed some of my bigger problems, I have only commited myself to throwing my hat in the ring with the 11.5 guys, did'nt say I would win or even be competitive.

The Hoosier 8" slicks will definitely work better for you than the MT DR's. I run the MT DR's on my Mustang and have cut 1.37 short times, but it's an automatic. Stick Mustangs on DR's don't have it as easy and usually have to do a lot of fine tuning to get them to work.
