I bought new MT 26x11.5x16 ET Streets a month ago and they seem to be getting worse. Average 60' is 1.6xx, I used to average 1.47 with my old ET's. I am also experiencing bad shaking of the whole car when I let off the gas past the stripe. I had the tires balanced best they could, but the guy was complaining about all the weight. Out of balance? Can these tires fail somehow?
They can, I have seen them go bad after enough hard burnouts/passes and time even before they showed any real physical wear but I've never heard of them going bad in just a month's time so soon after manufacture.
Unless they were in fact made a long time ago and then stored for A LONG period prior to you taking delivery?

It's possible Jay. I would still wo what we talked about.
The best way to find out is to quiclky swap the tires for someone elses for one pass.
We did that with mike 69 @ a rental last year and found out the tires were bad and he could barely keep the car straight.

Jay, you were at that rental as well. But yes, sometimes they are bad. Happened to my buddies mustang, couldnt hook for nothing, one side bit more than the other no matter what he set the tire pressure at or what he changed to shock settings to. He put a new set on and... instant traction.
Better get a new set quick, only 10 days to go before the nationals.
Did you measure the tires when you got them? Who did you buy from? If there's a noticable difference in the circumfrence between the two tires then I'd certainly contact whoever you bought the tires from and ask for a fresh pair. If you can establish "real" proof that this pair is defective then I think the distributor will send you a replacement pair. If you just tell them that your 60' times changed they may say that it could be a change in track conditions, suspension, etc. Just my opinion.
Well, circumference checked out ok and I lost some weights. I compared my new ET Streets to my old ones and I think it's the rubber. The new tires have tiny cuts/tears all over the surface maybe 1/16 deep. I'am not sure what caused this. Most likely it's something I did wrong, like improper break in or running them to low. I probably made thirty passes on those tires. At first they hooked, but they kept getting worse so I kept lowering the air. I know I ran them a couple times at 10lbs.
Now I got new Hoosiers 28x10x16 Circumference checked out ok. Do they need broke in ? If so how ?
(I also lowered the car per fellow racers advise.)
However, lowering the car and 28" tires is not a good combination.
Check the after every pass cause they will likely be hitting.
Also rotate left to right every event to even wear and deeper inspection.
Sometimes if you reverse the tires and burn them in the other dirrection
you can bring them back.If you have weight problems I would break the tire down and rotate them a little and check the balance again.Make sure you use lots of babby powder in the tire when you mount them so the tube doesn't stick. If you are leaving the car sit over night after a run that will cause flat spots in the tires.I jack my car up in the rear after the last run.The tires are hot after a run and I leave my car over night at the strip ,so I jack it up or you will have a flat spot on the tire from it cooling down with the weight of the car on it all night.
