Friend of mine hit the wall last night at US41 Dragway after all 5 MOROSO wheels studs on the left rear sheared off and the wheel went flying on his Cutlass.
This car is a very well bult street car and he has all the good parts. The car was running Mid 11 sec passes on motor on DR and last pass he decided to spray it and the car only made it 60 feet and lost the wheel. He had torqued all the wheels (as he does before every race) before he made any passes.
Just a reminder to look at something (wheel studs) that is usually overlooked until this happens. Thank god this happened at the 60 foot and not further down the track.
Sounds like he did all he could..if one has the proper studs, installed correctly and torqued correctly, what else can you do?...something is screwy on your buddies deal for all five to snap...

they stretch from over torque, all it takes it once and they get weakened.
as for all 5 going - I had this happen on a boat trailer - once the first goes it is a chain reaction, I never saw a rim get sheared like that before - now I never trust anyone with a roadside tire change but myself.
Good Year said years ago ,in writing ,lug studs are only good for 100 ,
Installs and removals.
Thanks Mojo for the heads up on the wheel studs, years ago.I just tried to run an "8" sec run last week.I didn't make it.I took out all 4 half shaft u-joints,spindle axles, and bent the rear wheel long studs.I guess it realy hooked.I guess I will try again on the 18 th of this mth.
With the weld wheels they always losen up.Remember Murphys Law.
I had the studs on my rear right side completely shear off once, while doing 70 on the inside lane of the highway. Was not fun, but luckily the wheel stayed in the wheel well.
