built C5 rear ends, do they really make a difference?
GM 3.42 gear set can be had for $1200. Aftermarket built ones cost 3-4 times more.
I've heard from many people that if you add the hardened left & right shafts to the stock GM diff, it should hold just as good as the built ones, even for a 9 sec car. The tranny brace helps too.
Is there anyone here who was constantly breaking the GM units? If so, did switching to the built ones solve all rear end problems? Did the built one make such a big difference?
I just can't justify paying this much for a built rear diff when the GM ones can be just as good

I suggest you call RPM. I don't think they cost as much as you think.
