They never ending debate on what a street car is.
If those are the only rules the the rule maker does not really mean "street" and wants the 5-second car there.
Fact of the matter is hot rod drag week proved a 7-second quarer mile car can drive 1000 mile and race multiple tracks in 5 days. Cannot get more street than that.
it all depends on what the requirements for a street car are..
If you would go by federal law, it would be defined like this: (other than the things like working lights, blinkers etc.)
For '74 and older cars, you can have extremely wild setups that are street legal.. HOWEVER, you can NOT have a leaded fuel requirement as leaded fuel is not legal for street use.. So, theoretically, ANY car requiring leaded fuel is ILLEGAL for street use
For '75 and newer, the same thing applies but you also need ot have cat installed. It's against federal law to run any car on the street that had the catalytic converter removed.
Now, those 2 legal issues are usually not considered when talking about street cars but if someone claims that he has a street legal car and it uses leaded fuel or doesn't have a cat (post '74), the car is not legal to be driven on the street.. (not that anybody really cares as tons of post '74 cars around here run on the streets with no mufflers.. Well, we don't have vehicle inspections in Florida)

The biggest problem I have with street legal classes is the disparity between what is legal in some states compared to others.
Its not as big a problem on cars > 25 years old because you have no emissions junk to worry about in the vast majority of states (even NY is exempt after 25).
The rules are set by the track or the promoter...whatever they say is "street" for their event is law...I have seen some pretty loose definitions of street and some tight ones...down here there are no vehicle inspections so you can register, insure and tag pretty much anything...very few race cars run mufflers or emissions...I have never seen a noise level restriction down here either...
I agree that if the rule is met, go ahead and race it...enough whining goes on and they will simply change the rule next event...
