Chip Horton knows, especially when you are the slower car most of the time
Being the slower car 9 out of 10 runs, and working with one foot, I dial one under what it will run, try to beat them on the tree enough to make up for that one over and "LOCK THEM OUT" !!!!!! Lets RACE!!!!

Well there is sandbagging and then there is "leadbagging" - a little sandbagging and holding a little back is all part of the game. It is no longer racing when your opponent holds back a half a second and then fender races you to the line with one foot on the gas and the other on the brake. The most fun I have racing is both winning and loosing right at the line with both of us running everything we have brought that day to the track. Perhaps I would sin more if I didn't feel this way but I'm sure I have more fun the way I do it.
I think it would be fun to have a "Sandbaggers" race.... everyone HAS to dial 19.50 and its a heads up Now that would show who is a GOOD or BAD Sandbagger

Those two go hand in hand, you would like bracket racing if you have some success.
You need to know your competition and you need to know the track condititions. Being a slower cars has major advantages, they are more consistant and track conditition don't affect them as much. Running down a slower car you need to know how to take the stripe.
It take alot of experance but the bottom line is you still need to cut a light.
The faster car has the advantage. At my home track, "NEW ENGLAND DRAGWAY" if one goes under their class index or there is any (tire) smoke, from braking you are done for the day

I have always felt better being the faster car, the race is in front of me. I also feel the faster car is less affected by weather than some of the slower cars ( referring to stock/SS). I generally don't have traction issues, ever. The car has spun the tires twice in 9 years.
I find it helps to know what your opponents MPH is at the stripe when he is in front of you. Gives you a way to judege when you should start peddling
