Weather is looking good for tomorrow except for wind. How bad do the wind gusts have too be for them to run 1/8th mile? Would hope that is not in the cards!

I'm not a fan of 1/8. But, if it's for safety reasons. 1/8 mile it is.

True! But regardless of their direction, 27mph winds often equal 1/8th mile runs.

What was the 1/8th mile number used for the Pro 11.50 last year when that happened, was it 7.35? 7.40?

If you're talking about the 11.50 index at Etown for Saturday, I would suspect they will run 1/8 mile only and 7.40 as the index due to possible 30mph crosswinds. You never really know until tomorrow but that's my guess.
The drag racing section is not just for NE and corvette challenge.

Since the this board is dominated by East Coast Supercharging Corvette Challenge members I figured I would get my answer, and those who don't know what I am asking would just ignore.

Anyway speaking of 11.50 index (which I do not run). Since its a points race should'nt it be postponed if you can't run the full quarter. It is not fair to cars that make most of their move on the top end. For example Cupolo's midyear. He does'nt 60 all that quick, but makes up for it on the top end. I would'nt think he would be competitive on the 1/8th. I don't know if he is the only one in that situation, but would be a shame to lose points due to it.

They ran 1/8 mile only at one event last season because of the weather. Etown calls it.

Wind last year http://corvettechallenge.info/2008round10.php was about 20 mph but it was also 30 degrees at the start of day so that was also a factor. Forecast for Saturday is around 60

If we do have to run 1/8th, and I don't have any indication at this point we do, the 11.50 will be 7.40 and Pro 8 will be 5.45 and points will count just like last year.

Where do they come up with the 7.40? Am I the only one that feels it is terribly unfair If my car is dialed to run the number in the 1/4 but can't run 7.40 in the 1/8th? There are only so many 11.50 points races, not enough time to make up for it.

Arch, there are alot of other things to consider as well to be fair to all the racers.

One is the fact that these dates were set up at the beginning of the year and racers likely planned their lives around the dates.

I'm not a big fan of 1/8 and I suspect that very few are but keep in mind there are alot of other things to consider as well.
I'm sure Edgar can attest to this that it's hard to please everyone when it comes to decision making in an event/series.

I don't think it's terribly unfair but I hear what you're saying. It will force many guys/gals to push their cars harder on the bottom end in particular the launch. (stock c6Z racers in particular).
7.40 to me is a fair number and not too low.
It's another way we have to adjust for track conditions.

Last years 1/8th race was the last point race of the year, I'm just saying it would have been a shame do be a contender for the championship, show up be told it's a 1/8th format and then not even be competitive.

I don't know how many cars this even affects, just a thought.

No problem anyway jpee says we'l be good to go 1/4!!

If you or anyone else needs a good set of drag radials for this event to help with the launch, let me know.

Crap, I hate to drive all the way over there & have to run 1/8" mile...especially since I run on my street tires... However, I do understand that it's for safety reasons. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. At least it'll be warmer than that last time. Maybe that will make a difference.
