Default Mickey Thompson ET Streets........

I may have a problem with one of mine. The pictures below tell the tale.

Is the spilt normal? Doesn't look it to me. I'm not sure I want to be going 100 mph on this tire until somebody tells me it's ok to do so. This tire only has 3 runs on it. I just happened to see these splits today when passing by them and the light was just right.

What do you guys that have been around a while think?

Do the tires rub on anything? Almost looks like inner fender well sliced side wall, but no thats not normal. Mite be ok but on the other hand mite not.

Doesn't rub anything that I can tell. I'm wondering if maybe after getting up to speed it may have rubbed on something. You know how the DRs have that diving on ice feeling. Nothing visible under the car though.

Personally I would still use them because, well, I can't throw anything out LOL and those still have WAY too much life left on them to simply waste.
But honestly, that almost looks like the very very early start of a tread that's separating from the casing/basic structure.

One other remotely distant possibility...on one (or all) of those three track passes you'd caught a sharp edge of payment/concrete during the burnout and it put a minor surface cut in the tread.
Not likely, but possible.

I would call MT. Maybe they will give you a new set of tires. I would say that you feel unsafe racing on them and so on........

That would be my guess. I still have inner panels in the rear and there is almost nothing left from rubbing.

They look brand new... Certainly looks like they never had a good burnout done. Looks like a manufacturing defect to me... Send pics to MT

The cuts on the op's tires seem very superficial and doubt if they are more than 1/8 inch deep. The groves on the tires are at least 7/32' deep. As before stated, the tires were probably cut during a burnout or from rubbing on something on the inner fender. Just race and keep an eye on them.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I sent an email with these pictures to the vendor I purchased them from. I'll see what they say. I'm going to send one to MT also just to see what they say too. Thanks again.

Good idea ...and if they end up sending you a free replacement pair I'll gladly buy these (in their exact current condition/level of wear) off of you for say, $100.00 including shipping to NJ.

These are blems, very doubtfull they are cut............I bought the ones above DIRECT from MT though their Mickey Thompson Online Garage Sale...........free shipping too! Ya gotta check often, they go quick.
Whom ever you bought them from may be selling blems as new if they told you these are new...........Blems are ~25% less than the going price on fleabay but work the same as new or MT WOULD NOT allow them to be sold. I believe if you look close there will be a stamp that says blem on it.

Thanks Steve, that makes sense. I did get them on the bay and they were slightly less than what say Summit sells them for. I'll take a look and see if that stamp is on there. If you are correct the seller will be getting an ear full and retracted feedback unless he takes care of this. I'm curious to see what MT has to say about it. Hopefully I'll now that today.

Default For future reference....

I just recieved this from MT.

Mike

Thank you for contacting us and your interest in our ET Street Radials. Looking at the pictures, it appears that the cracking that you are experiencing is a bad sidewall/tread rubber splice. This is the location where the sidewall is joined to the tread. This joint should not be visible. I would recommend getting the tires back to your dealer. They will be able to handle the warranty claim for you. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.
Thanks

Subject: MT ET streets splits....

Hi,

I purchased these through one of your vendors and I'm waiting to hear back
from them. I just wanted to get your input on it also.

This tire is one of two I put three runs on. First run air pressure was 19,
second 18 and third was 17 psi. The other tire looks fine. Is this something
you have seen before? Do you think the tire is safe to run on some more? Is
there anything you or the vendor can do?

I finally got up with the seller and he assures me that after I make a phone call to him in the morning this will be taken care of with new tires.

Thanks for all of your replies on this!
