Its been years since I ran at nite and only did it once. Do you guys typically find quicker times when running in the nite air?

Air is better, but traction may go away. In the bay area, moisture goes up at night which compromises traction.

Same thing out here as well, especially during the colder months. It's a little cooler at night but often more humid with a potential loss of traction, a bit of a trade off.

To answer your question typically you'll run faster at night. DA and temp drops and humidity will go up. The key is the DA drops and the track is cooler. We had 130 track temp Sat but Sat night we all ran much quicker. DA dropped from 3100 to 2000. Most of us picked up .200 even though humidity was high.

What is the exact method of determining DA?

If you are up in Canada, you should run quicker at night...down here it gets so hot during the day the DA is stupid high...then it usually drops in temp to the low 80's at night while we are running...at 4AM it gets all the way down to 74 or so...lol...

Even though the humidity rises like crazy here at night it it is still cooler so we run a bit better...typically at night we have a temp of 82 and humidity of 80 to 90%...the cars get so much dew on them we have to wipe constantly like it is raining...by 10 PM it's ridiculous...

Fuzzy, did you notice that when it hits the dew point you no longer go any faster with an increasing "better" DA?

We have seen this at E-Town. I have actually seen the DA get better but the cars slow down. I guess it is a result of the increased amount of water granules in the air.

Thats cool to hear--I am in the extreme southern Ontario region (just across from Detroit). In July and August it can get hot here too in the 90's with humidity in the 80's as well. We are the humidity capital of Canada here. But those conditions usually dont last all summer--we do get breaks of weather in the 70's and 80's a bit then.
