Default MSD two step launch controll

Anybody use one of these to set consistent launch rpm's? Looking for experience and how you trigger it.

I have the Lingenfelter 2 step. Honestly, haven't used it much b/c I've only been to the track twice since putting it in. Look a few posts down on the below:

Some footbrake classes you can only use a 2 step as a high side rev limiter. Using the 2 step to set your launch RMP isn't legel. Better check with the tracks that you race.

Kazman is correct..I have never heard of a track that allows a two step in a footbrake competition...trans brakes are illegal as well...don't get me wrong, I wish I could use one but they are seriously forbidden in footbrake...

If you only plan on test n tune or running full electronics events, no problemo...

NHRA changed their "official" bracket program from footbrake to "no box" making trans brakes and two steps legal. If you go to the Division finals, or a Summit Series race thats what you will see. at least thats according to NHRA, I know alot of track kept it "footbrake" because thats what their racers wanted

Chad...what you say is sorta/kinda true...the NHRA Summit Series always had 3 classes...Super Pro (full electronics), Pro (no electronics) and Sportsman (no electronics)...the only difference between Pro and Sportsman was ET, Pro being faster...

This year Division 2 finally joined the rest of the country in allowing trans brakes, two or three steps and air/electric shifters in the Pro class..basically the Pro class now follows the "No Box" rules...

Sportsman is still footbrake, no electronics...the ET break is 8.24 in the 1/8 mile between Pro and Sportsman...

Now for my rant...lol...I don't mind that they made the change in Pro...I do mind that my track and a lot of others do not offer the Pro class during the all year long Summit Series...they make us run Sportsman all year and when we get to the Division finals we have to run folks who have been on the two step and brake all season...I would put a t-brake and two step in my car in a heartbeat but I cannot use it all year so why bother?...

OK...rant off and sorry for the hijack...

When I first began bracket racing, circa 1981, NHRA Division One acknowledged FOUR classes, and at that time, none had delay-boxes:

SUPER PRO (10.99-and-quicker)

PRO (11.00-11.99)

HEAVY (12.00-13.99)

STREET (14.00-and-slower)

By the time I started racing weekly (1990), they had combined the 2 quickest classes into SUPER PRO (11.99-and-quicker), and merged the other 2 classes into HEAVY (12.00-and-slower), so there was no E.T.-overlap at the Bracket Finals, although each track was permitted to run classes at their weekly Series as they deemed:
I believe D1 allowed delay-boxes in 1992-93

I know that at IHRA tracks in Taxylvania, their classes are divided into 'TOP' (Super Pro, anything-goes), 'MODIFIED' (as you describe Pro, 8.50-13.99), and 'STREET' (12.00 & slower, no electronics), which gives young racers with 'true' street cars a chance to compete against other, like-minded racers (i.e.- NOT against trans-brake, 2-steps, and air/electronic shifters):
many experienced racers in Street also compete in Modified, and I competed in 130/150+ car fields at Pittsburgh in MOD

the amount of stupid in Division Two boggles the mind..... personally, I liked it when if you wanted to run with the fast-guys, you accepted the fact that electronics were permitted, and that the slower class was a TRUE 'footbrake/handshake' (hand-shift automatic or manual transmission), giving a place for the future of the sport to learn how to race, using your hands, feet, and brain, not your wallet
