Default 3rd year in a row !!!

I won my class today at the JBA Headers Late Model Shootout at Carlsbad for the 3rd year in a row. :) This event is pretty similar to the GMHTP shootout held on the east coast. 2 years ago I won the 12.99 and quicker bracket, last year I won the Heads-up All Motor class, and this year they did away with the heads-up classes, thus I went back to the 12.99 and quicker pass and won again..... this event is proving to be lucrative for my "Go Fast Parts Fund". :D

A lot of very fast F-bodies, Mustangs, Lightnings and Corvettes..... Congrats to Bruce for his 10.95 passes... and did I hear a 10.8x on that last pass ?? Congrats to Venom Lover for his 11.3's !!!

On the bad side of things, something is wrong with my motor..... I ran very slow today. Started off with a cold motor 1.57 60 ft 11.66 @ 116.2.... I was un-happy with this, I felt this should have been a 11.5x @ 117 today, so I started tuning..... and boy was that a mistake, regardless of where I went with timing or fuel pressure, I went slower... had a slew of 114 mph traps :(.....Started to get it back towards the end of the day though. But I think part of my problem is the new Rapid Fire spark plugs I put in yesterday... the only thing rapid about those plugs is how fast they're going to hit the trash can !!!

I raced well today.... good lights, good top end decisions and smart, but soft dials. Hope this rolls over into next weekend, I'm 3rd in points in the Outlaw Bracket series.

How did anybody else do racing this weekend ??

cheers,
Beach Bum

Congrats Todd

I didn't do so well, went out 2nd round in SLP day.
I think the posi is shot.
I can drive in a straight line, but sharp turns aren't happening without the rear end wanting to jump all over the place.
But my new Vigilante is on it's way already and I get my Dana 44 this week. Looks like I'll be busy.
We don't have any points events for a couple weeks, so hopefully I'll be back for some action.

Congratulations, Beach! That's great! Out of curiosity, what was the winning ET in the heads-up all motor class?

Thanks for the kudos! Obviously I was pleased to run a personal best of 11.3, but it looks like I'll be needing heads and cam to hang with Bruce!

Thanks guys :)

Mr. Mojo,

Ouch on the rear end !!! I dread the day I have to rebuild mine !!!
Good luck getting it back together.

Venom Lover,

They didn't have the heads up classes, they only had bracket 1 for 12.99 and quicker cars, Bracket 2 for 13.0 and slower cars and the Lightnings had their own bracket.... they also had the quick 8, and for the 3rd year in a row they tried to get me to compete in.... but I declined...that class was mostly dominated by 9-10 second Fox style Mustangs. I chose not to heat up my motor just to be humilated.
:p:

But if they did have a All motor class.... you, Terry Burger in the LS-1 Camaro and Andy the guy with the Red Fox style Mustang with white stripes all would have been a heck of a good race with all 3 of you in the 11.3's. I would have been easy piickings with my high 11's today...:( I'll figure out how to get quicker real soon though. :D

Congrats again.... your Viper is simply flat out fast now !!!

later

GREAT JOB!!!! I'm expecting an e with the round by round.

Hey, i looked at my car a couple of times this weekend....sitting there on blocks :(

I guess those rapid fires didn't help....lol. I've tried a few different plugs and the $1 a piece jobs seem to work as well as the $5 a piece versions.

Anyway, Between u and JP, it's gonna be hard to keep up :bb

Great Job Beach...winning an event while working on the car shows just how well you understand your car and bracket racing! Hope to get some details.

Great job by Mackey & JP also. A couple tough racers for sure!!

Ralph, how's the rebuild coming along...will you be back in action soon? Good luck!

Our points series starts next Friday...I've got 5 races in three classes in 10 days. Still trying to sort out my tranny problems. Hope to have all solved by Thursday pm.

Cheers

Todd:

Way to go.... congrats......
You are a master of bracket racing.
I am learning from you guys.
Check it out....I need to race smarter, not faster.
I went down on my second run, I dialed in 10.95, which was my best of that day. I was dialed in at 11.05, but I ran slow. So I dialed down to 10.95. And as well, I changed out the nitrous bottle for a full one.
Would't you know it....I brokeout of my bracket... :mad ... ran a 10.935.... my all time best.......oh well, I was happy and sad at the same time.....but thats racing.... But after I brokeout on my last race, I was given a trophy by the guys in the tower... for the best appearing GM car.....I guess they felt I was representing myself ok....Thanks Carlsbad....it was fun.
Next time I will try to get out of it early.... it is hard for me to get off of this, I have way too much fun.

Some of Sunday's ET's:
10.935
10.956
10.956 < second identical ET was back to back
11.043
11.116

:D

Thanks guys :)

Ralph, when I have a chance I'll give you the report via mail.... maybe tonight. And yeah, I agree, I think a $ 1 spark plug can easily do the job of those $ 4 doo-hickies.

ODennis, This club type event really held no real relevance with me, which is why I went ahead and tuned all day, including in between elimination rounds. I dialed for a hard spin all day and dumped big time.... in a couple of rounds I got some good practice backing into faster cars.... I did well. Usually this is one of my problems of not backing in tight enough to those hard charging 125+ mph cars. Email coming tonight or tomorrow.

Bruce, Congrats !!! You're hauling butt... just last month we were door to door racing.... and now :(.... come to think of it, I don't think I care too much for you and Venom anymore.... me and Mike used to be door to door races too.... and now you both have too much game for me.... :mad I think you guys should start racing Famoso or better yet how about Las Vegas or Arizona :D

I'm counting my pennies.

Congrats again !!! Thats haulin butt.

Congrats Todd, you da man! Bruce1 and Venom Lover congrats on your best ETs, track musta been prepped good. A bit of bad news I recieved, I called the only Viper wheel maker to get slicks and skinnies and found out that because I put those huge Stoptech brakes on the car for road racing there is not a skinny made that will fit my car  . So I guess I stick to road racing, on the upside I turned a 1:35 at Willow Springs and am doing the Open Track Challenge next month, 7 road race tracks in 7 days for points, cash, prizes and trophies.

BTW, a bunch of us Vipers will be at LACR Palmdale this Sunday for a day of drags.

Congrates again Todd, you are great.
and Mike.... again,, congrates on you great times...you have very good speed right now, yes, 11.3' are fast. We both have Blinding speed, right now I am just a little more blind than you are...hehe. I very much liked passing you at the 1/8 mile after spoting you 1.5 car lengths while I was asleep at the light on our first run. If you go with heads and cam, you may very well catch me. But I will be very happy beating up on you untill then. Keep up the good racing times. You have improved drastically.
I will be in the 10's waiting for you....(I hope)..... no problem.
Yes, winning is fun. Life is good.
But the economy still bites.
Let us Pray for business so we can continue to keep our cars upgraded.

My hat is off to Todd, you are the King in my book!

Hi Socal,

Good to hear you're still alive and kicking !!! Bummer about the brakes, but thats still a great modification.

1:35 !! Congrats !!! I don't road race yet, but I know from hearing the times from that track, that 1:35 is outstanding !!! :)

good luck at LACR.... I'll be up their the following weekend.

Wheelsup, I always need luck. Without it I may as well sell my vette. :)
btw, haven't had a race report from you via mail in a while.... your set-up under the knife or something ?

Bruce, you're too kind, and yeah, I'm the man, but unfortunately its the "slow man" nowadays.:(..... but I'll be back.

cheers,
Beach

Great job, Beach. Luck doesn't make a three time winner. Luck has to be there, but you can't win if you don't know how to use it. You do!

We start Friday with our Street Legal series. I can't wait for some competition. Keep up the good work.
