Default 2002 c5 Convert Auto Question

My buddy wants to go to the track this friday with me if it doesn't rain us out again! He has a bone stock 02 auto with the 3.23 rear. His question is to get his best time should he manually shift or leave it in drive? Also what RPM should he leave the line at?

I'm going to spank him anyways!

Leave it in "D" or in the C5's case "3".

About 1200-1500rpm to start off with.

Leave it in 3 and 1200 rpm is fine too.

Some drivers can squeak out a tenth by shifting on there own but I peronally would not want to even try.
