Did that helmet have a Snell 2000 rating or was it a motorcycle helmet?

Snell are the rating folks and 2000 is the year standards they adhere to.

You are missing a letter. The ~$100 is M 2000 (for motorcycle) the ~$180 is SA 2000 rated (Auto).

Drag strips will let you use the M rated. Road course (race tracks) require SA rated. Autocross I think might be either.

I have bought my helmets from http://www.racerwholesale.com

Redgar,

I just called Lebanon Valley Dragway and they told me the motocycle helmets are not acceptable for drag racing. They said you need Snell 90 or newer.

Like I said, you need three pieces of information for hemlet rating

If they told you Snell 90 and no motorcycle then that would me you need a Snell SA 90 or better.

That is odd though. Have you rented a helmet there? If you do, look at the rating. I would bet they do not rent $200 helmets for a few measley bucks, but I could be wrong.

I buy a lot of helmets from Helmet City. They have good service and are prompt at getting your goods out fast. Jegs is also a good source. Whatever the case, buy a good helmet and not some cheapie. I nearly lost a friend a week ago. He suffered some bruising to the brain from a freak accident where he took a very blunt blow on the helmet area above his eyes. He was wearing a top of the line Shoei VFX-r helmet and still got injured. If he had been wearing anything less, the doctors claim that he would have been a fatality statistic. He spent 3 days in ICU and 3 days in the medical ward. He is now walking and talking normal a week later. He is home and taking a few days off from work. A good brain bucket is very cheap insurance. And if you value your brain like I do, you will not skimp on a helmet. I drive race cars professionally and consider them as tools of the trade. And if you take good care of that helmet, it will last atleast until the next set of major specifications come out in a few years.

Give me a call, I am a dealer of Bell, Bieffe, and Simpson helmets. I have sent many helmets to forum members and I always ship them free. You want to get a good helmet using an SA 2000 rating. There is a whole lot more than a letter in the difference. the testing and materiels it is made of. But I am sure you have heard all that before. You can get in an SA rated helmet from Bell and Bieffe starting at around $200. and up. check out our web site at http://www.whittlesperformance.com and give me a call. i will help you get a good helmet for good price.
