Need tire options
Hey guys,
I was curious as to what tire you think I should run at the strip. I'm not going bias ply right now, so I am limited to drag radials.
At 630rwhp with just and SI blower and Meth to cool it, I made 2 passes, 10.5 and a 10.6 at 135-136mph on MT 275/40-17 drag radials. I added an LS9 cam and headers, and picked up 45rwhp. I made a couple passes in the heat at that power level at the 1/8 mile track. I found that the tires became less consistant. I don't push my car that hard on launch, but even so, it felt like getting a 1.7 was much harder than it was with less power.
That being said, I'm curious as what tire I should now go with. I'm running 17x9.5 C5z06 wheels on the rear. I was thinking about just swapping from MT to Hoosier. However, I am also adding 100-150rwhp with a 402 and a YSI by the end of the year. I'm thinking the sidewall on a 275/40-17 drag radial might be pushing it at 800+rwhp. Even if I do get it to hook, am I going to run out of RPM with a 25.8 inch tire? My other option was the 295/45-17 MT drag radial, which is a little wider and more than a full inch taller.
