Finally got back to the track it rained a little on us when we first got there but they dried out the track and let us run!
I ran a new best of 12.76 at 109.98 mph with crappy 2.09 60ft time.
I got like 7 back to back runs and all of em except 2 were 12.76-12.79 I leaned the fuel pressure out a notch and went 2 12.82 and 12.83's put it back to 39psi and ran 12.77 that was my last run.
I am happy with the consistency but I want to know how I can get better
shortimes. I ran these on firstone firehawks, now I have 315 bfg dr. A little more power added however. Not much just headers & TB.
With the 315's I would think you should be seeing low 1.9x pretty regularly.
What is the PSI on the tires? I think you might want to be around 21.
Launch technique is where you are getting the bad 60' Experiment different type launches. Some folks have had success with 3000 rpm semi-dumps and others with 800 rpm idle launches.
I never used BFG's on my 94 but I used 16" ET Streets. I 60' in the high 1.8x with them.
Burn out method. Are you using a line lock? Going through the water? If you use the line lock, go through the water and do a pretty lone burnout. When you get out of it and get to the line, if the smoke gets in front of you, you did a good burnout.
I started out at around 20psi and went down to 15psi in increments with no change really. At this track you have to drive through the water. There is no driving around it. I tried just dumpin the clutch high and spinnin' em to the rev limiter, didn't seem to get em hot enough. Then I would power brake it.
Man these cars are hard to power brake my ABS light flashed a few times doing this.
One guy there said I should try not doing a quick dry hop before I staged. he said do the burnout and roll to the line and stage. I didn't get to try this.
Also I ran a 1.9 a few years back on some dunlops but I remember I had about 1/2 tank of gas. I have been running with about 3 bars, or just before reserve lights up. Matter a fact my last couple of passes was at 1 bar showing. How much gas is best to run. Is the added weight of fuel benficial to these cars or will it hurt my times?
Oh by the way? I don't have a line lock. Do they help quite a bit?
The line loc will make life easier with a stick car, or an auto also. It allows the front brakes to be held while the rear spins free(Duh, you knew that hehe) It's better to have one if you're going to be racing all the time so you don't wear the rear rotors-pads. That being said, you click the switch, lock the brakes, dump the clutch and burn 'em 'til the belts come through if you like ;).
[EDIT] Dry hops are a waste of time. Get your tires smoking, then ease it out of the water 'til they grab. You're now ready to blast down the 1320. It's always worked for the quick guys(mackey, panuzzo, beach bum, ralph etc. to name a few C4's) so it's a good technique.
A line loc looks like it might be the answer for me. Are they very hard to install? I take it you have to bleed the brakes afterwards.
If all goes well with my work schedule I may get to run in KC this friday. The problem is Friday night turns out to be *** crap night and they never really do to much to the track.
I want to try the no dry hop thing and maybe a little more tire pressure.
Anyone here running a 315 on an 11" rim? Just wanted to know what pressure works best for a similar setup.
