Default New best ET at the forum cruise in, observations on how the day went.

This is how often I get to race a real 1/4 mile dragstrip vs. the local 1/8th track we have here. Once a year at the cruise in. Last years best was a huge improvement over CI-1.
CI-1 I got a 14.4 at 96 mph then got rained out.

CI-2 I performed some mods, most of whats in my sig and ended up with a best of 13.70x at 105 mph with a 2.21 60 foot time. The one currently in my sig.

CI-3 I didnt do any major mods, just tuning and driving. Anyways, heres my best ET from yesterday:
60 ft 2.063 street tires
1/8th 8.713 @83.96mph
1/4 13.52@105.14mph
I'm very pleased to get a mid 13 on street tires. The car still has more in it but untill I commit to drag radials I may not see it. Some side notes, I trapped today anywhere between 103.xx mph and 105.xxmph. Didnt notice any heatsoak or reason why. Shift points were allmost allways the same. I found that best mph and et were gotten by shifting at 5000rpm. I also had a 13.602 at 103.45mph with a 2.111 60 foot time. For comparisons sake here is a run I had against another forum member in a 96 LT4
Me: Him:
60 foot 2.17 2.375
330' 5.851 6.165
1/8th 8.902@83.33mph 9.179@81.97mph
1000' 11.523 11.746
1/4 13.722@105.14 13.874@106.14

All told I made 7 runs. My reaction times were all in the .6xx range except for 2 where I staged deep. I had.667 .648 .658 .614 .768  .645 and a .475 :bb
Problem is, my .475 came in the first round of eliminations. I had been staging shallow all day and had been fairly consistent with mid to low .6xx lights so I figured I'd stage deeper but leave the same. I had a 13.65 dial, having just ran my 13.60 and a 13.52. I ran a 13.74 and the other guy broke out but he may have done so knowing he had won. He was in a ZO6 I think.
A good time was had by all and a 79(?) 4 speed car made it to the finals. He broke out by .04 after having treed the guy by a solid .15
One other thing, the fastest run I saw today was an 11.05 @ 129.xx mph OFF the bottle and he did HAVE a bottle

Yes it was a great day. And for the record, I only treed him by .093. I couldn't believe I broke out at the end of the day, with the car being hotter as the runs progressed. I had a blast and couldn't have picked a better way to lose. John ran a 13.200 on a 13.20 dial. It was an excellent race.

I was surprised at my 60ft. times. I would cut near a 2.3 with very little tire spin and launching around 18 or 1900. But if I launched around 2 or 2100, I'd spin like crazy and cut a 2.2 60 ft. I chose to spin em for that extra tenth all day.

Good job. The CI is usually not a good time to best ET's especially if no new mods.

I agree with this, but compared to the last two years, my mph had gone way up, et's stayed the same.

I was killing the tree with my worst being a .602 and my worst a .352, I had the rest in between those two numbers!

I was 3/10's off ... MPH was about 2 off and the elevation was indeed higher, way higher than E-Town .. but fun, none the less !

I couldn't bring my M6 LT1 out because the clutch is blown, but I did make about two dozen passes in my mom's L98. My 60 foot times were mostly in the 2.0-2.1 range and I'd trap anywhere from 94-98mph. After 12:00 it was just waaay too hot and my times went from a best of 14.28 and an average of 14.4 to several passes that didn't get below 14.5.

I was impressed with the low-end torque of the L98. Off the line I'd get the jump on everyone. LT1s wouldn't pass me until the 1000 foot mark, and C5s were in front before the 1/8th mile.

Nice times!

Ya - if they think those r-times are bad, they would have loved mine. I had to have the starter tap on my window to let me know ithe light was green the first couple of runs :yesnod: !

would love to see a "por-fessional" show us all how it is done...

best regards -
