I've been watching drag racing for a while now. I've always loved it, and I finally decided to try it for myself the other night at the local strip. I wanted to post my times to see if you guys have any tips for me. I drive a 95' Mustang GT 5-speed so if you're wondering why I'm on these forums it is because I love corvettes, my dad owns two, and I'm about to buy my own.
Welcome. You just missed my LT1 6 spd that sold a few weeks ago, sorry.
As for your times, when you analyze a run you want to pay particular attention to the 60' time. Your's is a little high which indicates your must have spun the tires some.
Try launching with a less RPM until you find the point that your tires do not spin. Take a lot of practice but it can be done.
Did you lower you tire pressure a do a little burnout?
No, i didn't lower the tire pressure any, i will next time though, what should i lower it to?
And yes, i did do a burnout, not in the water box though, since that would be stupid with street tires. :)
I made a second run and launched from a little lower RPM, but i think i pulled my foot out of it and it bogged the car way down. I think with a little practice i'll get it down, but I'd like to know what kind of 60' is possible with my car.
It's good to spin the tires a little right? I did spin them too much on the first one though, i got a little sideways.
Did you ever run your LT1 on the strip? How did you like the car?
It's not out of the question for you to see 2.0x 60 foot times on street tires. Drag radials should get you in the 1.9x or even 1.8x range. That would put you solidly in the 14s. Welcome and hope you get your LT1 6 speed.
You should easily see mid to low 14 second runs with your car. It just takes practice and lots of it. Take mental notes of what you do for each run and try to duplicate it every time. Also write them down, so when you make a change(in your procedure) you know what it was.
You can get a logbook from Summit and keep track of just about everything.
Also, make note of the weather conditions.
