Taking my Bone stock LS3 to the track, need a few tips please
Taking my '13 base M6 to the track this weekend & hoping for mid 12's by the time I'm done learning my car that day.
Gonna run on the stock tires.
I've read lower rear tire pressure to 25 & do a quick clean of the tires.
I've read conflicting threads on using traction control & competitive mode.
I tried experimenting with competitive mode setting & all I got was a pair of 30' marks & what felt like bogging & yes, I did side step the clutch.
So, my 2 question are:
On launch, TC on, off, or comp mode & why?
Shift points, 6K or redline?
Thanks

Here's an update.
Went to Cecil, been there before & I always get my best times vs. racing at my home track, New England Dragway.
I put the M6 in Competitive mode, did a quick burn out to clean off the stock F1’s, which I left at regular air pressure & staged.
I expected my 1st run to be a low 14 / high 13 pass & then a couple of 13 second runs until I learned my car because as some know, it doesn't matter how good you are at a red-light, once at the track with another driver staged next to you, the adrenaline starts pumping & all bets are off.
My 1st run went better than I expected.
I shifted at redline, 6500 RPM, but took too long between shifts after reading the horror stories about how these cars can get loose.
I attained a 12.78@113.61 MPH, not too shabby for my 1st pass.
My 2nd run I slipped the clutch a bit, but wheel hopped which I quickly let off, mashed the pedal again, shifted much quicker as I’m accustomed to, but netted a 12.97@114.72 due to the lousy launch.
My next couple of passes were in the 12.6/12.8 range until my final 2 runs of the day.
Run 5 I slipped the clutch a little more, netted a 2.06 short time & sailed to the finish line with a 12.41@115.89.
My 6th & final run was a 12.59@117.12 with a 2.15 short time as I slipped the clutch a bit more trying to get the 60’ down to again beat the brochure stated 12.6@115 for a coupe.
All in all, it was a great day.
Here's a few pics.

Those GM specs. are a joke. Easily beatable by very average drivers.
There is a LOT more in your car. As it sits. The right driver/tire combo could put your C6 into the 11's.
GM says my C4 is only good for 14.0, yeah right. 13.38 with a 1.99 60', stock. More in it. A bit better 60' and I'm looking at low 13's all day long. Street tires, FYI.
Your best 60' of 2.06, I viewed the video. You bogged hard out of the hole. Don't be afraid to be more aggressive with the throttle application as you let the clutch out. You should feel the rear end squat and never feel the front fall back down. Going to be tricky on those stock Goodyears however.
This is how I leave the line. About 4K hold, as I am releasing the clutch quickly, NOT a dump, I am feeding throttle at the same time. So when I get to clutch out, I'm at 100% WOT throttle. Car squats and goes. Smooth and no tire spin. You have a bit more (ahahah) torque and HP to play with than I do. Just play with it and you'll see improvement.
You did a LOT better than many Corvettes I've seen.
You get another , for not being scared and actually driving the car the way it was intended to be.
FYI, you are SO right on the track being WAY different than a "red-light" environment. At that Christmas tree its put up or shut up, with EVERYONE watching. A lot of fun for sure.

The manufacturer's data for the LS2s stated roughly 12.8@112 or so, I did it (bone stock) in 12.2 at almost 116mph in mine.
True, even a bone stock (tires and all) C6 LS3 can get into the 11s in this cooler Northeast air with a good driver. The bone stock record for a C6 LS3 is 11.70@119+mph so there is still more left in that car.
