Default C5 benchmarking...

Hello,

I went to the drag strip for the first time ever in any car tonight. I left pretty happy. My plan is to benchmark this car at the strip and on the dyno after each major mod. I live close to Maple Grove and Phoenix Performance so its pretty easy.

I'm building it to be a street/road racing car and I'll have Penske coilovers, PdV Motorsport 2 piece rotors, probably switching to Forgestar CF5's, and H/C/E/tuning to get me over 400whp.

Right now I have a 98 6spd coupe with 91k miles and:
BBS LM stock size wheels and run flats at 32psi
Some sort of aftermarket intake
B&M short shifter
Z06 axle back exhaust
Weighed in at 3450lbs exactly with me (250lbs) in the car and nothing removed

My first run was a 13.979 @ 105 / 2.511 60ft
Second run was a 13.919 @ 103 / 2.360 60ft (forgot to turn off traction control)
Third run was a 13.602 @ 107 / 2.341 60ft and pretty bad wheel hop.

I'm putting together the Penske shocks slowly after work each day as I gather off inventory parts for free (I design them so I am really excited to get these on first) I really look forward to running the same setup and horrible tire pressures with the shocks being the only change and seeing how much faster I'll be.

If you're interested in the BBS wheels let me know. They are in perfect condition and the tires are nearly brand new.

I can understand the poor ET with that 60' but the MPH should be in the 112 to 114 range. Doesn't look right.

What RPM should I be shifting at? The first run was at 6000 and the 3rd was at 6500.

Considering your car is bone stock and the air wasn't so great yesterday, 107 MPH isn't too bad, maybe a tad low. You 60 ft needs work though.

For reference my 98 all stock and first time out and with stock run flats and not so great air, I went 13.169 @ 106.85 with a 2.064 60 ft. With drag radials, some practice and good air I went 12.521 @ 110.66 with a 1.825 60 ft.

Damn, I knew none of my launches were clean but I had no idea these cars were that fast stock.

Since they were my first 3 launches ever I think I need to go a few more times before modding to get a real baseline.

Stock motor now I assume so MPH is about as expected. At 400 rwhp you should be looking at trap speeds in the 117-119 mph range. IMO of course.

Not to be a jerk but my bone stock C4 would have walked all over you. Yes, bone stock C5's are that fast. If I where you I would not change a thing (other than get some decent street tires) and spend the coin on some seat time. That is the ONLY thing that will make you faster. Once you get consistent and quick, then add power,etc....

FYI, my C4, 93 LT1 ZF6, runs 13.5's like taking candy from a baby and traps in the 103-105 range. My PB is 13.38@105 with a 1.99 60' in just ok air. Street tires, Kumho SPT's at 26psi. Your C5 should be low 13's or high 12's with decent tires and some decent driving.

Spend the money on the seat time and the ET's and 60' will come.
