On my M12, running in comp mode has absolutely no affect on my ETs and it limits the worst that can happen. Below is a link to a thread that starts with my story of nearly hitting the wall before comp mode intervened and saved my butt. A similar thing happened to another racer in our club earlier this year. Had we just turned it all off, we would have wrecked our cars in a "timed event" and not been covered by insurance. So I see only a downside to turning off active handling.
Please say more about the effect of Competitive Driving Mode on the launch of 2000s, 1999s, and late-1998s with (Gen-1) active handling. TIA.

On my car and from what I have been told all pre 2001 (when they changed to next generation active handling) You cannot powerbrake the car. So if you want to launch slighty off-idle while holding the brake the car will bog slighty. So basically leaves us the choice of a normal launch or running with AH off. Hope this makes sense, Redgar you have a 99 I know not sure if you have AH or not but maybe you can add some insight here as well.
