I just returned from Carlisle with newly added intake and exhaust work completed. I am planning on running 1/4 mile at Atco Raceway and need some advice. The car is a 98 Convertible, automatic trans, no adjustable suspension, and stock run flats. I am planning on running in gear selector 3 (overdrive off). What about the traction control, on or off? What tire pressure should I have the EMT tires at? Any other advise for a first time dragster?
:chevy
Allow me to be the 1st to Welcome you Zipity :seeya
automatic no overdrive and no traction control are a good combination :yesnod:
Run flats should carry high tire pressure to avoid hopping.
Dont try to burnout on the lauch
oh go real fast!
I have had some success lowering the tire pressure on the EMT to about 25 psi.
Traction control off, AC off.
At Atco you don't have a choice but to go through the water box. Try NOT to get water on the tires. With stock tires you do NOT want water. Stop just after the water in the burnout box. When signaled out, do a samll burnout to through off the water and get a little heat in the tires.
Car should be in 3 (drive) not because it is faster but because if you bracket race, you want it to be there.
Stage the car and you can either leave from idle or hold the brake and raise rpm to about 1000 rpm. experiment a little.
Third yellow comes down, let it rip. Go easy first time to get a feel for the car and the track. The exit is on the right.
Have fun.
