Default 60' ?- ?

I was watching the 60' times(E town had them on for the day on Saturday once cars hit that zone) on the scoreboards for many types of cars. It sure gets confusing....and you certainly can't call what a car is going to do. I saw anywhere from 11 second cars clicking 1.7's to 13 second cars hitting a 1.7. The weirdest thing was with the faster cars. There was an 8 second Camaro that clicked a 1.3. Keith Brownlee did a 1.37 and He went in to the 9's. I guess it applies differently on the top end. Some cars with similar power or maybe less don't have as much HP on the top end. It's neat to say the least seeing all the variables.

Just thought I'd share that. I think it's the toughest part of the track too...to hook up and be consistent there.

JD, as you know, I'm a 1.7 60'er with low 13 second runs.
My car seems to fall on it's face especially at the 2-3 shift

I agree JD, it's really interesting to watch the 60's. Naturally there are many factors that affect a car's 60' times (tires, launch rpm, weight, air quality, etc.). My car 60's poorly, about 1.73's up to 1.78's depending on the air but it runs 12.0's to 12 teens at 114/115mph (Bandimere). This indicates a tight converter. I could probably get a better ET with a looser converter but conversely, I kinda like the top end charge. One drawback to a tight converter is that it is easier to go red as the car's rollout is quicker as the air improves (for ex. as day turns to night). Next time you get a chance to watch take note of the mph as it relates to the 60's....you'll soon notice some confusing disparity in mph as well. Good subject!

Cheers,
OD

You bring up an excellent point!! I always thought the 60' times were indicative a the final E.T and MPH..Not so!:nono: I have been running consistent 1.66-1.67 over the last few passes but my mph has been no better thean when I ran 1.7 or even 1.8 60' times..Hopefully the head modification ands addition of the line loc I'm doing now will help with that.

Great observation JD. Just take a look at Stock/superstock car and their 60' in relations to ET and MPH compaired to our street cars.
Some real interesting thing going on.

Don't forget gear ratio in that equation...I pull a 2.00-2.04 60 foot every time with the drag radials, and get a 13.0 - 13.1 @ 107. With the 2.73s, my car pulls hard at the top end, after my converter install I think my 60's will be a little better. When it was cold out, I did get 1.94 on a 60 foot with the runflats but I think that was because I had just a little spin and it brought the motor up a couple hundred rpms, almost like a converter would.

Yes, it is quite interesting, the variation. Traction obviously has a lot to do with it(if not all of it)....but the second half of the car is all hp carrying you to the end.

Gaborb...

I relayed what the car does to a good friend(Has an excellent understanding of powerbands etc) He mentioned you might not be taking advantage of the runners i.e. shifting too low. Maybe try spinning it a little higher. Could work? If so, the MPH might go up a bit and the e.t. should be a little quicker if not more consistent. We'll see.

yea I think 2-3 shifts a bit too early...
1-2 shifts at 5200, so thats good, I haven't checked within the past few days where 2-3 shifts. Used to shift real nice and pull hard after going to 3rd. Since I had a few issues with the vacuum leak and stuff 3rd feels a bit weak... Wonder if my plgs are fouled again (about 700miles since last change)... They seem to get mezzed up rather quickly.

Jay..

When I had my 2800 converter, skinnies, Weld Pro Stars etc, my car was set up ideally for the launch.. (1.65-1.68) but my mph was only 109 - 110

This shows I was hooking good but no BIG HP at the top..

Now if you took a stock tired car with a big shot of NO2 he would 60' in 1.9 - 2.0 but would blow by me top end & he'd have a lot more MPH

I had a good set up to launch, but no HP to back it up with...

I ran a 1.84 on 26x10½" E/T Streets. That's with a VERY minor burnout. But my mph was only a 96mph and my E/T was even worse! (13.7) I dunno what's up...maybe my air filter was clogged?
BTW: I heard that for every .1 you shave off your 60', you get .2 shaved off your E/T...but this didn't come into play for me :( Because I shaved .2 off my 60' and I only shaved off BEARLY .2 on my E/T..I dunno...maybe I just suck)
