Default Gear Selection

Need advice on gearing....Car is a C5 'Vette, M6 manual trans, roughly 1,100whp, 28" tire. I am wanting to go 8.90 - 9.0. I currently have 3.90 gears and with those gears I could theoretically hit 160mph @ 7500 RPM. Should I keep the 3.90s or go with 3.73s which theoretically give me 167 at the same RPM.

Even with 3.73, that's a pretty high SLR for 1100 hp.

Seems most corvettes will use a 3.42 ratio once they get to that kind of power level. Likely because it's difficult fitting a taller tire than the 28".

If you move forward with the solid rear/4 link setup, perhaps a 3.50 ratio might work well.

Starting Line Ratio.

http://wallaceracing.com/calc-slr.php

It determines how hard the tire is hit.

Configure your SLR, shocks, and suspension geometry to get the maximum traction and forward movement at the hit.

Question: Have you ever been drag racing before? I think I know the answer. You need a lot more than just HP to achieve an 8.90-9.00. Just ask 427 HOTROD he has way more than 1100 HP and hasn't gotten the 8.XX timeslip yet. Nobody can give you any real definitive direction without knowing a ton more information about your car. More specific info would be helpful.

Kyle ran his nitrous car to low 9s with a 6 speed and 3.42 in an IRS corvette. I think he had a 402" LS with a boatload of nitrous.

I'm sure you've researched it a bit and have seen his setup. I don't remember which trans he had.
