The Nightmare before Christmas...
No, really, that is what this event is called....lol...Orlando Speedworld held their last race of the year yesterday...I entered Pro ET...the day dawned very chilly for us down here...it was 47* when I hooked up my rig at 7AM...that is stupid cold around these parts...lol...I got to the track at 8AM...we got two time shots and I figured the cars would be fast due to a real good DA...
My first run was not very good...my line lock wouldn't hold so I got almost no burn out...just a small barney rubble...the car hoisted the wheels and ran 6.60 with a 1..I missed the tree with a .051...I am still trying to get used to the trans brake launch...I raised the two step rpm to 3200...she hit pretty hard for sure...my second run I got a good burnout and when I let go of the button the car went wheels up and, unlike ever before for me, it carried the wheels out a good bit...holy moly!...that was different...lo and behold she ran the fastest at every increment...1.39 short, 4.14 at the 330' mark and 6.51 at the finish line...wow!...my previous best was 6.59 two years ago in ice cold air up in Georgia...
So now they call us up for first round action...my buddy and I cannot hear any announcements since there are no speakers near our pit...the radio broadcast is not working either so we have to guess on when to go up...this will come into play later on....sigh...I line up with a newer mustang...he is dialed 9.60...I have 6.52 on my window...he leaves and I chase, both green...I am .028 on the tree to his .094 so this was an easy win...I go two over, ftw...
Round two I catch another mustang, this time an older fox body...he dials 7.24 and I put 6.52 on my board...we both leave green and I lead him through by .012...he was .032 on the tree but I was .006...no problems for the win...I ran 6.54 this time...the car is slowing...hmmmm...I am beginning to find a spot on the tree with the button...
Round three and I got the bye run...well, kinda/sorta....I pulled off to the side and ended up having to run a newer challenger...I know this guy and he is tough...he dials 8.60 and I had 6.55 on mine...while I waited to see if I had to run anyone I watched a lot of cars break out...the sun went down and it was getting colder...I change my dial three times and end up at 6.53...off we go and at the stripe my light comes on...turns out I was .024 to his .021 on the tree but it was a double beak out...he went 6 under his dial to my two under...yup, another 6.51 for me...I forgot to mention that when they tried to re-prep the track before the round the sprayer broke and spilled vht all over the place...I sat in my car for 50 minutes freezing and getting toilet leg while they fixed it and cleaned up...sheesh...
Now my buddy and I are still in back in the pits we are waiting for round 4...10 minutes passed and nothing...finally we decide to go up to staging since we have no idea if they called our class...holy guacamole!!!...they are just about to close the gates to staging and disqualify both of us...we end up being the last two cars to run the fourth round...I hate running a best bud...that sucked...apparently they announced for everyone to come right back up after round three but we never heard a thing...stupid track...multi million dollar operation and they can't fix the stupid radio or put a few speakers out in the pits...
So my buddy in his 78 malibu wagon dials 6.67...I go with 6.51...seems my car wants to run that number...we both stage and I am on the two step...he leaves and I let go on the third amber...oops!...my car never moves...WTF?...all of a sudden it launches all by itself...of course the race was over since I had a .182 reaction time...adding insult to injury my car ran dead on with a 1...sigh....my buddy killed it with a nice 15 pack so I had my work cut out but I would have liked a chance...I have no idea what happened but it seems like it is a bad connection someplace...maybe the button stuck or the solonoid is goofy...who knows...
So that was the end of my night...of course the next round was in the money...lol...I am going to try to fix the trans brake before next weekend and the big New Years National event...10 grand to win both the 29 and 30th plus a 32 car shootout for 4 grand...if I cannot fix it I will go back to foot feeding...anyone who is interested can watch a live feed of the event on MotorMania....
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone...

One of these days... one of these days... I changed jobs again, and we don't get down there much. Makes me sad, but everything else about the job makes me happy!

Last weekend was fun, and once again I learned, it is better to be lucky than good! I'm looking forward to next weekend at PBIR and see if my luck holds.
