Tring to get some info before I buy some new Drag radials. My GS-C's spin into next week. Can Drag Radials be driven on the Highway? Also what tires do YOU favor.
Yes you can drive them on the street until they get bald. Leagal Tread depth is 2/32 I think.
There are basically 2 makers, Nitto and BFG.
Nitto is more street freindly is it comes with more tread and the compound last longer. However, most people will say they require more heat to stick and are somewhat inconsistent.
BFG is a softer compound and stick better and better as the tread wears away. Ideal is bald. But of course bald they are not legal on the street.
I prefer the BFG as consistency is important as I bracket race often.
I just bought BFG DR's and tried them for the first time at this past Saturday's CCC. Since I have a convertable I have no room to put them "in" the car and change them when I race. So.......I drove to E-town on the DR's for 2.5 hours. Outside of the ride being a little bumpy I had no problems.
I took off a consistant .15(now 13.34) off all of my ET's and .2(now 1.81) off of my 60's (something looks hokey there but thats what I did)

I think they're both great DRs.....the Nittos will probably be better if you're by chance caught in the rain and as mentioned already they will last longer. But the BFGs are clearly stickier/quicker in most cases. :yesnod:
I like my Nitto's but they do need to be heated up some..I mean you have to smoke 'em good..I can't complain about my 60' times.and they drive well in most weather..:D
My Super Chevy mag came today. It has a DR "shootout". It is not very in depth. Here is what they came up with, 275x60x15, 1/8 mile, small block Chevelle, averages:
Stock Tires BFG Nitto
60' 2.235 2.216 2.25
330' 6.202 6.129 6.143
et 9.452 9.321 9.329
mph 75.22 76.64 76.98

Hey Vince or Bob or anyone else.....I have a dilemma(woo a big word my head hurts)....I will be getting DR's very soon.My question is I have to drive 90 miles each way to the track and soon I will be driving to another track about 4 hours each way.....is it safe to drive on the BFG's?...I know the Nitto's are safe.Which tire is easier for the novice? I really don't want to sit there and keep burning out. Thanks and I am still confused as hell. :D
I have run with both. Clearly , unheated, the BFGs stick better. If I had a line lock I might be able to burn the Nittos enough to get them to stick, but for me they have been quite inconsistent. On the street , when I had BFGs , they wore down pretty quick. Seems like its a tradeoff and the better tires are the street, the worse the track.
Yes I know the BFG's have more traction but is it wise or safe to travel 90 miles each way to the track and soon I have a track event thta is 4 hrs each way. Thanks
