I was in Rockingham last weekend for my first experience on the track. My first and next to last run of the night were the best two times. I was the first car to make a run that night which was good since it gave me a chance to run solo and learn what to do.
My first run was a pretty funny sight. I pulled up past the line and had to back up. Once I got in place the tree ran through the lights before I was even ready. The light turned green and I just launched the car without even thinking. I did have traction control turned off but half way down the track I realized that both of my windows were rolled down. I pull up to get the time slip to see the numbers. Reaction time was 1.402, but I was surprised to see that I ran a 13.172@106.95.. 2.116 - 06'.
The following 4 runs were all in the low 13.2's then I finally pull out another 13.1 with a 2.061 60' time. Being my first time at the track I kept on experimenting with different launch techniques. Here is a link to on or my better runs for the night:
do you have access to drag radials, that would help.
Did you leave from idle or raise the rpm some. Try to raise the rpm to about 1000 and see how that goes.
Also when you light up the second set of staging lights, try not to go too much further. That will save you some distance and give you a little advantage on ET.
Oh yes! I can see a lot of mods in my future. As plumberh20 said: Drag racing is addictive. :yesnod:
I am launching the car in the 1000 - 1200 RPM range. I start to spin the tires just after 1200PRM. My tire pressure was at 28 PSI on all 4 corners, but I will probably drop the pressure in the back two tires on my next runs.
By reading through the boards here I am learning as much as I can on the most effective and cost conscious mods for the car. Just driving the vette is an addiction in itself, so it's become a daily driver. It is by far much more fun to drive than my SUV. With Christmas around the corner and a couple of vacations planned I am putting myself on a budget before I go out and spend $15k in mods. :D
First on th list I believe should be a 3:42 gear upgrade.. then who knows what will follow at that point...
Ha Ha....another one joins the fold! Great feeling to see what your car can do, huh? We are at the track every week!!! and now with a 8 second alcohol rear engine dragster we will never be home! Go often & be safe!! :D
Yeah the addiction has set in.. and now I think back at all the years I lived in Rockingham and never took a trip down the track. Now that things are starting to close down for the winter it's time for some upgrades. :yesnod:
I've had greater success with the rears around 24-25 and the fronts around 40-41. best bang for a buck improvement on an A4 seems to be a torque converter, from what I've seen should put you in mid 12's.
