Never thought I'd be asking this kinda question but I need something really small to carry to rear tires, jack, etc for trips back and forth to the track....anyone using something similar?
Re: Anyone Using a "Tire Trailer" Setup?! (mackeyred96)
our track is an easy hour away and although I wear Nitto Streets now, I'd like to not run thru those in a season and spend the money on a set that I can wear down during the year :D
Re: Anyone Using a "Tire Trailer" Setup?! (Mean Green 2000)
Mark, your choices are to buy a second set of wheels and swap between street and strip, or get a trailer.
Most of the autocross guys I've seen have adapted trailers to their cars for that purpose.
There is a C5 hitch available, Judi has one on her car for a bike rack. If you want, I can ask her where she got it, then you would just need to get a trailer, you wouldn't need much.
Also being you're in a C5, buy a cable and lock and put the wheels/tires in your trunk, swap at the track and lock up your street wheels while you race.
Most guys at E-Town either have the wife or friend bring a van or truck and store them in there, some just leave them laying in the pits with all the other stuff they took out of the car(not recommended). the rest lock their wheels to the fence.
I've seen many C3 and C4 guys with tires in the car, the C5 has much more room for that.
Re: Anyone Using a "Tire Trailer" Setup?! (Mean Green 2000)
If you're going to change them just do it at home before you go to the track. You're not that far away. The Nittos don't wear that quickly driving on them. Their weakness is lack of puncture resistance. They will pick up any sharp object on the road and puncture much easier than regular street radials. :( I know this from experience. They can be patched if the hole is at the tread and not too big, but must be dismounted and done from the inside. That hasn't stopped me from driving them around town though. :D
Re: Anyone Using a "Tire Trailer" Setup?! (Half Fast)
Whatever you do is fine..just don't leave the tent home !!!!.. ..you're dragging that tent along has saved my azz more than a few times in the heat...BTW, a big thank you for doing that all year... ..

Mean Green, check out my home page for trailer pics. I use a Dylan hitch and a 4X5 trailer. Runs 70mph solid as a rock. Beats trying to take out the seat and from my measurements, the tires still would not fit.
