Beach Bum.. Update please!
Hope to hear VERY good results...
Matt
I haven't given any of my results simply because they are in-conclusive.... The track was extremely busy Thursday night and could only squeeze in 3 passes, and for various reasons, none were clean. However, it looks good....almost ran 94 mph in the 1/8th on 1 pass.... never done that before.
If I could of have had a clean pass an easy 7.2x was there for the taking.... maybe even a 7.1..... but just guesswork. Best pass was a 7.35 with a 1.540 60 ft.... however on that pass I ran out 2nd gear wayyy to far trying to find the rpm wall, which I did, motor fell flat on its face at 6300 rpm..... really hurt mph on that pass with only a 90 mph trap speed. The other passes were spinning.... they stopped us at the line in the next race because they thought the previous racers were having problems on the big end.... backed us up and then stopped and pulled us back-up... tires were ice cold as evidence by a 1.78 60 ft..... last pass, more of the same, my opponent in his 13 second Mustang did a burnout 100 feet out.... then backed up and proceeded to rear wheel stage, thus the starter came out and had him back-up and stage correctly finally..... all of this time, I'm sitting at the lights as my tires cool... another spin pass.
Will have real results after the 1st of the year when I can work on it, and give accurate results.
cheers,
Beach Bum
Did you feel a difference in the car? Whats a 7.35 and a 7.1/7.2 around in the 1/4? What was your best 1/8th before?
Is the SuperRam ported from LPE or someone else? Did you get any pictures of it?
The SuperRam I got is ported from LPE.. its one of the originals (off Johns 1990), it actually has a fully hogged out GM manifold, very nice hand porting done to the whole thing... Your my idol on this car for drag racing... if I am 1/2 second behind you I'll be happy with it ;)

What did you change on the intake? Your 1/8th mile looks stout!

The 7.35 would have equaled a 11.57 ish..... very accurate, within 1 hundredths, I also run between 4.2 and 4.3 seconds the 2nd 1/2 of the track. In this case, it would have been about 4.22 seconds.
A 7.10 with a auto car that traps 94 mph in the 1/8th would knock the 2nd 1/2 of the track down to around 4.15 seconds, thus a 7.10 would be around a 11.25, with a pick-up of about 25 mph... thus a 119 mph.... but not there yet, hope to make it after the 1st of the year when racing resumes. However, a car than runs 97-98 mph in the 1/8th with a 7.10 would run right around a 11.10 with a 4 second flat 2nd half... or thereabouts anyway... not an exact science.
Thanks for the compliment, but my results are very average basically because of my low compression iron headed motor... I think you should set your sights on running 2-3 tenths quicker than me if anything. A good running and well optimized 383 witha Superram, aluminum heads, 10.5 or 11-1 cr with a raceweight in the 3300-3400 lb area should be able to run low 11's in good air and mid 11's in summer air.... I don't quite do that.... yet. :)
Holeshot,
I just changed from an unported superram to a ported and matched superram.... no decent results yet though, but I'm only expecting a 1-2 mph improvement anyway. I require several trips to the dragstrip to dial it in before I am confident I have accurate and real before and after results.
I'll let you guys know sometime in January.
cheers,
Beach Bum
The reason I say lower then yours is that I am not building it for drag racing at all, but road racing, so very stiff springs, big bars, etc. Only thing I will consider in the "drag" specific catagory is drag radials, even then probably only if I borrowed them... I am also a 4+3 which with my driving will probably hurt a tad in 1/4 time.
What is your weight at? I forget if you have the A/C system in the car or not? My eventual goal is sub 3000# :D
Matt
Man I was dying to see the results. Cork and I were talking last night and he mentioned that you got a post up, but were not able to get any difinitive results. Too bad.
Man am I getting the itch to get this engine together and get to a track with it. Too bad we have the winter months here to contend with.
I think your gonna get the results you are looking for...When cork ports his out, we should have another good before/after example to couple with yours. Mine I guess we will just have to guess what would have done before, because I opted to not have to pull the SR again. :D Do you blame me?
Looking forward to see some more results....make a pass for me!
